Samu's 2026-27 Emerging Female Riders CQ Game (The Muriel Furrer Trophy)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas CQ team selection season, and I am ready to kick things off with the third edtion of this particular game.
If you've been a regular in my games it shouldn't come as a surprise that the format have been tweaked slightly. It will now run over 2 seasons instead of only 1.

Rules
The other major change is that teams will now be allowed to feature 18 riders rather than 16. The only requirements are that the riders haven't scored more than 199 CQ points during their careers before the start of the 2026 season, and that they are actually allowed to ride in the female peloton (you may of course still choose a male rider, but he won't be able to score you any points). You will naturally have a better chance of winning if you pick the full 18, but feel free to select fewer riders if you don't want to spend too much time on it. The more players the merrier.

If you're mostly familiar with the CQ points system for the men's games, be aware that some women's races will hand out different amount of points to the winner and/or award points to more riders than they would have done on the men's calendar. Also, results in the minor classifications in WWT races won't award the riders any points.
It's also worth noting that junior riders can take part in elite races, and that it's possible for both juniors and youth riders to score points at the national championships in some countries. CQ points from all 2026 races will count, including races that take place before the submission deadline, which this year will be the Australian National Championships and the ITT at the championships in Thailand.

Also note that some riders may have scored points since the end of the 2025 game in October.
One example of that is Juliana Londoño who won the RR title at the Bolivarian Games earlier this month, which not only added another title to her palmares on top of the Colombian and Pan-American ones she'd already claimed this year, but it also moved her past the 200 career points barrier.

Submission and deadline
The deadline will be at the start of the Tour Down Under which occurs on the 17th of January for the second year in a row, but if you want to make sure your team gets approved in time, send me your list of riders in a PM either before or during the 16th of January. The team behind the scenes have approved me as a temporary mod, which means that I can currently receive PMs.

To help me out, it would be much appreciated if you list the riders with the names and formats from the CQ database. Riders sometimes get married during the off-season which might result in a name change. Sometimes CQ will also decide to change the spelling or format for no apparent reason. I'll probably be able to spot most mistakes myself, but it would make me very happy if you did your utmost to help. In case you've made a mistake or you've changed your mind about your line up, you're allowed to alter your team up until the deadline.

Updates
I will try to keep you updated on how the game unfolds on a monthly basis, but I can't promise that it will always be the case. CQ will sometimes release new downloads only a week or two apart, but other times you have to wait six weeks for the next one.

When I get around to starting the Women's CQ game for next year (probably at the weekend), I'll set the closing date a couple of days before this, so that I can publish a list of those chosen for the senior women's game that are eligible here (assuming that Samu is happy for that to happen, as he was in previous editions), so if you feel stuck, you could wait for that.

I have received the first 5 teams (6 including my my own), so we are a third of the way to repeating last year's total. Two teams does currently have the same popularity score, but they don't share all their riders.

We are now at 9 confirmed players, so half way to the 18 from 2025. A guaranteed top 10 is therefore still possible, but I doubt it will be the case for long.

Listed below are all the picks from the main game that are also eligible for this one.
However, now that this is a two year format there are naturally a lot more options to consider since some riders may not start to emerge until late next year. Even someone who's currently active in a different sport could end up being worth the risk.

So now we have to be knowledgeable about Sepak takraw players, just in case?

Better to be safe than sorry. I am currently following some 8 year old Basque pelota players, for instance. That isn't true, but I mean years ago you had Tatjana Paller wishing to represent Germany at the Olympics in (track) cycling while Antonia Niedermaier had hopes of being present at the first Winter Olympic events in ski mountaineering, and here we are only weeks away from them having accomplished the other one's dream.

With around 9 hours until the start in Australia, we've reached 13 teams, but keep them coming.
I think there are 8 previous players that haven't signed up yet, but some of them don't seem to be too active anymore, so I don't expect to hear from all of them.

I will be away from the spreadsheet most of the day tomorrow, so it is possible I won't be revealing the teams before late in the evening. So if someone sends in their team before then I probably won't deny their entry, unless a potential/likely game altering result has occurred in Australia and/or El Salvador.

EDIT - after reading last organizer message allowing a lil more time  I delete the team I posted here, send it to him in DM and maybe will think a little bit about the selection as I did it in a absolute rush -

*** I did the team in a little more than half an hour just looking sheet stats like a scan machine without really thinking that much about. Normally I like to do my teams in several days, investigating very deeply a lot of riders trajectory. So let's see how it goes lol
I used almost all the riders available from my firstcycling season team, to help me out a bit along your main game list and an old list of last year juniors I also did for the firscyling game jaja

I apologise for the further delay, but I will soon be ready to post everything.

We are 14 players this time around, compared to 16 in 2024 and 18 in 2025, but as longs as we have at least 10 teams there will hopefully continue to be a decent fight for all places in the ranking.

83 riders have been selected, with 40 of them being unique picks for their owners. Our newly joined VolkerWessels fan, Dani HR, is the only one who has rejected Imogen Wolff, with a team that coincidentally consists of exactly 13 unique picks and as a result has a very low popularity score compared to the rest of us.

In this year's Out of Competition league there are 6 entries:

The Collective Wisdom team, with the 18 most popular riders among our selections, the 2025 Poppers, with the 18 highest scoring still eligible picks from last year's game, the 2025 Toppers, with the highest scoring riders from 2025 that are still eligible, the Best Possible 2025 Team, with the highest scoring eligible riders in last year's game, the 2026 Main Game team, with the most popular eligible riders from this year's main game, and lastly a team with the unselected riders that rack up the most points during the run of this game.

The Collective Wisdom team consists of 21 riders because 5 riders were picked 4 times each. Their combined scores will be divided by 2.5 to fill out the final two spots.

The 2025 Poppers has 19 riders, because 3 riders scored 100 points last year. Their combined points score will be divided by 2 to make up the last two spots.

Since only 5 eligible riders were picked more than once in the Main Game, I have decided that the last 13 spots in 2026 Main Game will be made up of the highest scoring riders among the 31 riders that were selected once rather than calculating an average score for those riders.

The best 2025 team should have had Ségolène Thomas in it, but since her retirement is official she has been replaced by Matilde Vitillo.

The team of unselected riders will see its roster being updated throughout the game.

Mackenzie Coupland is currently leading the CQ Ranking for 2026, but since the Aussie NC has been downgraded from the first to the third tier, her championship title only scored her 32 points rather than the 70 Lucinda Stewart got last year. So it's way too early to know whether she will become a good pick this year or for the whole duration of the game.

Similar to last year's game, one current junior rider has been selected in Anja Grossmann (last year it was Ostiz who's one of the most popular picks in this edition). Since she has very much become the flag bearer for the remembrance of Muriel Furrer, I was always going to have her in my team, but now that she has signed for Trinity in MTB I don't really know how much road racing she'll be doing when her junior days are over.

Points before the game even started?
That's certainly new for me...

It is definitely noteworthy, especially considering you were the only player to submit their team in 2025. Claiming the Aussie double is an achievement in itself, but you also deserve some credit for having already picked both Coupland and Wilson-Haffenden back in the 2024 game.

The Unselected Riders have taken the lead in the OCC League with 59 points, so Cordi is ahead of everyone at this stage.

It would have been very worrisome not to start ahead, taking in mind that I selected 5!!!! australians.

I'm not really sure about that in the long term game tho, but didn't have that much time to reflect lol

My team ordered by age groups (I went with mostly youngster + a couple odd older picks):
2007: Ostiz, Swierenga, Arens, Boothman, Pegolo, Kiros
2006: Wolff, Dixon, Bates
2005: Appleton, Siegers, Coupland, Holmgren, Wilson
2004: Roldan
2002: Mitterwallner
1996: Tieleman
1993: Venerucci

Venerucci was a trail runner til last year and is also a pharmacist, is rough and in her 30s but also is a strong climber. Tieleman also went late to cycling and until this winter was also working a regular job, but did a very consistent flemish classics campaign in her debut at that level. Mitterwallner is xco star but also does some road. Roldán comes back from an ugly injury but is talented.

With the youngsters, specially Ostiz, Swierenga, Arens, Wolff & Appleton were no brainers, nobody should have missed them imo. Siegers and Coupland did also a strong 2025 season. Holmgren was a little off (specially compared to her sister) but still worth the bet, while with Wilson I had more doubts as she's too much of a TT specialist. Boothman is a track star in the making and maybe could become a nice sprinter. Pegolo ended very strong her junior season at worlds & euros, so I bet on her too. Kiros is a very risky pick being african but the upside as a climber is there. And Dixon & Bates are probably my oddest picks from the younger cohort... Dixon did well last season after winning the Swift challenge, and I noticed that as a junior Bates was at her same level and is also coming to the pro european circuit this 2026 after an odd 2025 doing mostly australian and belgian amateur races a lil bit under radar.

I'll post here also what would have been my B team:
2007: Hezinova, Gissinger, Silo, Aranguren, De Buysser, Stampori
2006: Langenbarg, Vierstraete, Lloyd, Codony
2005: Van Sinaey, Huys, Greve
2003: Sadnik
2001: Alisch
2000: Bolks
1998: Lenehan
1995: Kingma

Silo (maybe the best italian junior climber, that had a lot of back luck last season), Stampori (strangely without a team yet after being a very strong junior), Vierstraete (good TTer), Codony (spanish climber promise coming late to the sport, still under the radar), Alisch (boxing star - random, yes - changing sports to cycling, I was tempted to bet blindly on her as she has been a winner in her sport) and Kingma (triathlon star that will do also cycling) would have been unique picks.

.
Now looking at other teams...
The most picked riders I didn' consider I see that are Fityus with 5 picks, Pellegrini with 4 picks and Casasola, Geurts, Shaw & Aintila with 3 picks. Then other 11 riders picked 2 times so altogether the 17 of them could make my own ignorance team, I just need to pick one unique pick to complete the team jaja

- After investigating a little the unique picks, there are some very interesting ones I like. I would highlight maybe Noemie Thomson. But also Von Berswordt, Richardson, Kloser or Caluori seem very interesting upsides. With more time to analize more riders, maybe some of them could have slipped into my team (as Fityus or specially Casasola, 15th at Giro GC and still elegible smh).

I also notice that maybe there is a spanish majority between the team managers participating (at least following the user names). Strange in a english forum but as a fellow spaniard I don't mind :)

I had somehow managed to forget I'd picked Coupland...

Like in the Men's Emerging Games, I'm using a very stricks "U23 Riders Only" rule. However, unlike that game, I'm not so concerned with it being (mostly) first-year pros.

Sorted by birth-year:

2007: Arens, Ostiz
2006: Volstad, Wolff, Aasebø
2005: Coupland, Greve, Holmgren, Marasco, Wilson-Haffenden
2004: Aintila, Pellegrini, Roldan, Ruiz Perez, Van Belle
2003: Geurts

We've had events in Australia, El Salvador and Spain (the three major Spanish speaking countries), and some of our riders have earned their first points. I also notice that more of them have raced this year, but in either cyclocross or on the track, and unlike the future UCI rankings those results won't count for this game.

I am not really sure how it's happened, but RhD finds herself in first place after the first month. And not only that, she's also currently the only player who's ahead of the Collective Wisdom team, although Rufs is only 0.6 points behind it. It's still early days though, so things could look very different when we reach the next update.

I have the second and third highest scoring riders at this point in time, but the lack of Mackenzie Coupland's points means I'm 12th instead of 1st. Dani HR is not on the board yet, but with VolkerWessels taking part in the UAE Tour this week that will likely change soon.

Ainara Albert and Francesca Hall are the top riders that got away from everyone, apart from Roland that will be pleased with all the UCI points they scored this month.
