You can't force it to be because you can't see the future. Besides there's been pretty good fields if you go down in the results of the u23 races apart from the winners. 2021 had Girmay and Kooij on the podium. 2019 had Pidcock, Higuita, Eenkoorn and Bissegger all up there. 2018 had Hirschi winning, with Lambrecht, Mäder, Pogacar, Padun and Hayter in there. 2017 had Cosnefroy beating Kämna.

The biggest talent will skip this category. That is unless you wanna make it WT status, put it after the Mens Elites and allow ME riders to do the U23 race after for the memes.
Which is precisely why I don't like it. I'm happy if people enjoy it for what it is, but it's not what I care about in a world championship. Also:
  • Kooij was still eligible for U23 until this year
  • Girmay was still eligible for U23 until 2022
  • Pidcock was still eligible for U23 until 2021
  • Bissegger was still eligible for U23 until 2020
  • Hirschi was still eligible for U23 until 2020
  • Lambrecht still would have been eligible for U23 until 2019
  • Mäder was still eligible for U23 until 2019
  • Pogacar was still eligible for U23 until 2020
  • Hayter was still eligible for U23 until 2020
  • Kämna was still eligible for U23 until 2018
So of the big names you mentioned all but 4 (Higuita, Ennkhoorn, Padun and Cosnefroy) actually had their big U23 performance before their final year of eligibility. How is that not an argument for lowering the age of eligibility by at least one year?

And more athletes will double in another category. MvdP might skip MTB XC if it was before the RR, or Wout skipping the ITT, ...

My question is specifically about normal years, so no need for MvdP to worry about MTB.

Next year Olympics have cycling on every day of the competition and no two disciplines on the same day. Tokyo had a similar schedule while Rio had two off days (track and BMX events took one day less to complete).

Obviously, current worlds have more competitions so it's tougher to add all, especially when the event is done over 12 days compared to 16 days of Olympics.

In a normal year I would get rid of the mixed relay. ITT first is fine.

For the Super WC I'm curious to see if anyone will medal in two different sports. If MvdP, Ganna or Kopecky takes another medal that would be on two entirely different bikes and surfaces in one week. I hope they won't include cyclo-cross the next time. That would be too much for MvdP.

The Super WC should also include sack race, tug of war, hopscotch, fierljeppen and rope skipping.

Among the Juniors, it's already happened.

It's a cycling Super World Championship. So unless you can do those things on a bike, they don't get included.

You cannot get rid of the mixed, IOC's big baby.
Like other sports if we want contined levels of participation and hopefully more then its essential.
Now the French mayor is the big Olympic honcho it will almost certainly continue.
Switzerland are now the Kings of mixed with MTB win as well yesterday.

In a normal year I think the current-ish way of scheduling the worlds is more practical.

Close the roads for TTs first hopefully in a way so they can be reopened for traffic when the riders are gone and then the same for the RR.

Having the men’s road race be the culmination as well is also logical.
Maybe the worlds should open with the TT instead?
Allowing a few more days of recovery so Wout can Aert types doesn’t skip the tt.
