What did they do in 2008 with Astana? And in 2009 with Valverde? Besides UCI might help them a bit even by not giving his team (whatever that team may be) a PT license.

that was a different story. cycling dwelled in agony and didn't know how to handle doping further. uci quarelled with aso. though, as far as i know, the man, who was in charge for non invitation of astana, was fired even before the start of the 2008 tour. they won't repeat such a mistake one more time.

I wouldn't be so sure of it. ASO want a French winner but as there isn't a French rider capable of pulling it off they just settle for a Luxembourger. I mean, that's sort of like French.

by no means of such a victim as contador otherwise they wouldn't have allowed him last year. despite the giro, most of experts and bookmakers thought he could win.

Cuddles is a different story he seems to have his best years really late. I mean normally it's like between 29 and 31.
There is one huge reason. He wasn't mentally ready around those ages. After he won the WC in Medrisio, things started to change for him.

would like to disagree, it is not unusual at all to have your best years when you are around 34-35 ish (except mybe for sprinters)

I would say that's highly unusual.

Edit: because why else would a lot of the riders retire when they're around 36 or something? I mean Alberto once said that in 10 years time (he was 27 back then) he sees himself retired already for some time.

He also said that he can't see himself racing until his late thirties like Voigt, Hincapie, Vino etc.

Edit2: I'm sure he knows more about himself than we do.

But i would disagree with you when you say ASO want Scheck to win or a French rider to win. If that was the case they wouldnt of put the extra TT in which only hinders the Schlecks and France`s best hope in Rolland.

I'm sure they rather have that than a Spanish winner. Because Spaniards = evil.

Contador will not resign for Saxo in 2013, it's that simple... Saxo will never make it into the WT again unless Riis finds a big sponsor and buys guys like Cancellara.

He will resign for a WT team and that means an automatic invite to the Tour.

Contador at QS, that would be a wet dream for me.

Or at BMC, not that I care for that team, but it would be great if Phil and Contador were team-mates. Retire after this year Cadel! :p

I'm sure they'll make it to WT we just don't know how yet. But Riis always finds a way. Maybe he'll adopt the "moneyball" approach that AG2R took this year except Riis' Iranian will probably win Flanders

Not every team that gets into the first 16 teams on the ranking can get a WT status. If there's something wrong then that team can't. And besides I wouldn't put it past ASO to put pressure onto the team to make sure they don't bring him.

Yes I think very highly of ASO.

No way Boonen would want him at QS lol.

And Alberto is not allowed to go to that **** team that is BMC.

He has to go to Movistar or back to Saxo.

there were already discussions between Quick Step & Contador before Contador joined Saxobank, with the money of the Czech sponsor i don't see much problems anymore...

really? if we take out people like Popovych (peak at 24 ) and Horner ( peak at 62(?)) we usually are left with people that peaks between 28 - 34, off course not everyone is at their best when they reach 34, but it is far from impossible

edit: and don't forget Conta doesn't need to be able to do a Verbier stage to win a GC :)

The thing is likes of Horner fire cos they were relatively weak being young. Being over-competitive from 23 to 33 for instance is unreal.

have contador won a GC at the age of 23? in that case wow, he is really good :p

Well, 24 :p

Also when checking cqranking it's almost hilarious how many times he finished miles ahead of his team captain. :p He just was really good in the first years of his career that's also why I think he won't have a relatively late peak.

If someone thought contador would win then they are not an expert. for one it suggests they have very little idea of what the giro is. shame on anyone with that kind of ignorance who thinks they have an expertise of our beloved sport.

But Andy will be on peak form and with Alberto on decline Alberto won't win from 2015 onwards so I'm still right. :p

Really I wish you are right but I just can't see it. I do have some objectivity in me.

I just announced a majority opinion. Additionally bookmakers proceed not only from riders' nominal strength, but also players' stereotypes of thinking and awareness. And yet Contador got about 60% votes on CN. I personally сonsidered he couldn't hit even top-10. Isn't Michael Rasmussen an expert? :)

Are you trying to reassure yourself or are you trying to make me sad(der)?
I was saying quite obvious stuff. Afterall, saying "over-competitive" we imply GT wins.
