Well, disappointment aside - I'm sure we're all glad that Team Sky is a little cleaner today than it was yesterday.

One small move in the right direction for cycling.

We'll know they are clean when donkeys start performing like donkeys again and not like racehorses.

Call this morning

I think the meeting went something like this:

DB "So Sean, I'm here to ask some questions in regards to any past doping you may have been involved in"

SY: "Cut the crap Dave. You know what went on. But forget about what I was doing 20 years ago we've got the boys on a program now! I'm not a scapegoat for that sh!t! You know about it and you authorised it"

DB: "Sean this has come from the top. You need to tell me about any past indiscretions you may have been involved in. Any mention of current doping would cause for you to lose your job and be labelled as bitter"

SY:"This is bullsh1t Dave and you know it. I could bust this wide open and you're forcing me out the door? - What's in it for me?"

DB: "Rupert has approved a package that I think you'll be satisfied with but it will require an NDA to be signed"

SY: "This is sh!t. But I'll sign. I don't need this. All I ask is that I can say retired and I'm not dropping Lance in it."

And maybe this morning ?

SY - Dave, I have texted you twice and called you 3 times - why wouldn't you answer ? I've been onto Fran and she tells me she didn't leak the story to Gallagher. I am being set up - this is not what we agreed.

DB - ok ok I don't know who leaked it that way.

SY - You must do, this is rubbish I will blow the whole roof off the bus unless you get something dam**d good out there right now.

DB - We will do a press conference tomorrow and you can say your piece there then.

SY - Tomorrow - that's no good, I am being pulled apart right now. the BBC have been on and even the guy from my local paper has been asking me how much does EPO cost ! I need something out today.

DB ok ok I will get Fran to set up something with the PA, just short mind you.

SY - I need you to say I have not had anything to do with doping ever in my life and that you have every confidence I have ridden my whole life clean.

DB - Com'on on now Sean, that is a bit too strong, how about if we say we are proud of all you have done with us, we have no cause to suspect you of anything and you are retiring.

SY - ok but I need a bit in about having had the interview and we both agree that I am not retiring because of anything revealed in the interview.

DB - OK I will get onto Fran now, she can draft something up and she will then ring you.

If Sky were truly a clean team they would not be shredding those with a history. They could say we were aware of their history but that is the past, everyone who walked through the Sky door know we are about doing it the clean way so we have nothing to worry about and more importantly nothing to hide.

This is throwing dirt off the bus in the hope that is appeases the media enough to get Sky back viewed as a clean team. But it is doomed to failure.

Nothing is gonna take away from the fact that the year they had a doping doctor on the team they destroyed the opposition in all their target races.

Wait a second, I think my eyes are deceiving me here. One of the biggest critics of Garmin and their so-called BS spin is now advocating that SKY should have followed the Garmin policy on former dopers:eek:

That's a fair point.

However, See post number 328.
As previously said: in defence of his personal Omerta.
No confession on his agenda.

Sky know it, can't prove it, therefore compromise.

Whichever reason, it's not an outcome that paints Sky in the best light.
Far from it.

If it does get shown he had had past involvement with doping - and had told Sky - Sky would be clearly guilty of a cover up:

"Sean has been interviewed and there were no admissions or disclosures that would have required him to leave the team."

No. What i am saying is Sky are still doping, but this stupidity of ridding themselves of those with a history makes them look like they are hiding something. Vaughter's method is more honest but does not mean they are clean.

Subtle like marginal gains. ;)

The manner of Yates leaving could be explained in many ways:

Yates has a bad ticker IIRC(probably due to all the drugs;)), and at this time he did'nt need all the confession hassle in the media.

Issues brought up in the interview could have relevance to the AD agencies, and hence it was better to let them handle the process.

Yates has a bad ticker, and is actually tired of all the travelling.

I doubt there is a single move or statement that Sky could make without raising your suspicions.

Save yourself another xthousand posts, by just stating that everyone is dirty and you don't believe a word any of them say.

Get some sort of a generic auto post set up and by this time next month you could use the time you have saved to decorate the spare bedroom.

No need to thank me, just being neighbourly.

It looks like
1) He was interviewed
2) He did not admit to any involvement in doping
2) (assumption) he did not sign the paper
4) He retired

One test of this will be whether he will receive a pay-off, rather than simply quitting and receiving no financial compensation. Brailsford should be specifically asked about this.

All people with doping connections must leave Sky, right?
According to Wikipedia, Yates tested positive in 1989, when he was on 7-Eleven. So, I think it's "normal" he leaves.

And you can bet he won't be.

So reading between the lines he refused to sign the new charter, hopefully he doesn't get the severance package of those who "confessed".

Motoman will be happy to see his friend again!

Maybe Motoman needs help in his bike shop. Can Yates ride a motorcycle?

"I realise the timing of my retirement will lead to speculation given what is currently going on in the sport but I can walk away with my head held high knowing I have done nothing wrong." Yates in CN today

Another one who thinks we are f**** stupid. And it is exactly the opposite - Julich left with some dignity and can have his head up, not Yates. Yates is such a disgrace still lying, denying - hoping he can slide in again in year or so when the storm is over.

Never been a big Sky fan but like them more now for getting rid of those characters.

is Brailsford so naive to want them out now, in the middle of this s**tstorm (as someone has called it) in cycling, instead of waiting a little bit more?

WHY, WHY not wait January 1st 2013 and let Julich, DeJongh and Yates leave the team after ending their contracts with 2012, just thinking about a reason to write in the press release?
they could have found something, a new job, a new role somewhere, whatever, just to write down they have changed plans and moved on.

maybe in the meantime the situation with investigations and media could have settled down.

I am not defending SKY, but they could have done it in a safer way.
