She seems to be supporting LA. However, she make no definite comment on alleged doping, etc. Her support seems emotional, although she does comment on how hard he trained ... as if gatorade and cookies were his soul (sic - read sole) intake. And of course, she recites the scripted cancer fund donations.

Has she been subpoenaed? Is she simply being nice in this article/interview before the storm of truth and eye-witness and circumstantial evidence is given? (She lived with LA in Spain.) What does she owe to LA?

FTR, her music is OK. I have none of her songs.

It's the kind of article that shouldn't even be posted by CN. It feels incomplete. CN should have indicated whether the author was asked about doping and provided her defense of Armstrong, "no comment", or legalistic answer (I doubt that she would have confirmed it). Based on what was written, I don't feel that she was providing a defense. It was more of a summary of his past actions.

Likely she was deposed and did cough up the goods. This is a way for her to stay off LA's payback grid, by playing nice in public. The fact that she did not become part of the denial campaign says it all.

true. A terrible piece of journalism, just taking her quotes from a no doubt soft talkshow (not that I really know much about this bird katie couric but knowing the genre I suspect it was soft and the presenter not knowing much about the topic) and not even mentioning the questions NOT asked, which would be the only interesting in this context.

why even include the quotes about LA working harder than anyone else? Of course he worked hard, no one doubts that but that's got nothing to do with whether he doped or not.
Also, what the duck does Sheryl know about how hard every other rider worked?

Cycling News need to step it up

I posted this in the United States of Omerta thread, but will repeat it here:

Note how noone is game to put their name to this "story"? Fearful of a clinic backlash perhaps?

And I don't think you can use a "it was multiple authors" defense either. Consider something as simple as an advertisement for a job like here: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/work-for-the-worlds-leading-cycling-website-4 and consider the footnote at the end of the page:

(Additional editorial assistance provided by Gregor Brown and Susan Westemeyer.)

Don't you get the irony.

Ms. Crow says that Lance trained harder than anybody else.

Think about the implications of that statement.

Recovery?

Do you get the extremely obvious irony now?

I wonder if his "payback grid" extends to Hollywood or the music industry. He's trying to extend it to politics through Sensenbrenner and the CA state delegates, with limited or little success. Not sure if or what he could to do anyone in the music industry.

I'm sure there were a lot of tough, biting questions, such as: what did you (Crow) wear while you were a LA groupie - sun dresses with sandals or shorts and tennies? How did you decorate your apartment in Girona? Does a pro cyclist really ride his bike on that skinny saddle two hours a day to train? ("no Katie - he would ride it *all* day - I mean all day! - I doubt no one else trained as hard as he did").

I doubt Armstrong has the pull in CA, it is Weisel.

CN to be writing a 'news' story on this is BS. Also quoting the 1 thing we know is such a BS thing to say.

If she got cancer herself, and she knows how fake Lanceyboy is, she MUST be lying about her feelings towards him, despite not having seem him in a while?
I'd be prepared to wager a very good case of beer that the two had some sort of telephone contact before Jeff called her in, though. Witness tampering? Offering the pop star free service of top sollicitors?
I'm not a fan of hers (sorry for those words), but I do feel for her. She betrayed the illness by being his media shield. Guess what she got as a thanks? :-(

I am guessing she told all, but is smart enough not to talk in public about it. That she has not seen him and appears not to have contact with him will tell you that Mummy Crow and the big responsibility she has to her boys is not going to want to get in trouble for a lowlife like Armstrong. SO i guess she will have told all, but is not going to let on yet.

a cynical view would be that they both have a financial interest in the cancer community - Crow now as a survivor linked to Livestrong and its fans. Supporting LA publicly is necessary to avoid alienating a large fan base.

True, or it could backfire and if Liestrong is seen for what it truly is she will get lambasted too.

Edit:

Gerard Vroomen ‏@gerardvroomen

Lance just replied: "Of all performers in the world, Sheryl's the best ... after the Olsen twins, Arnold & Robin Williams"

Lol, never thought of it that way. Seems very obvious now though

When Ms. Crow says Lance trains harder than anybody else, that is an indictment of his doping. It's really pretty obvious.

The normal, undoped, body requires rest and recovery time to heal and rebuild from the abuse of training.

The doped body recovers way faster. This enables the doped rider to train much harder than the undoped rider.

So when Ms. Crow says that Lance trained harder than anybody else, before reflexively assuming that statement is a lie consider that the statement might be true. After all, he did finish before all other racers in 7 TdFs (who were also training extremely hard).

Now consider why Lance might be able to train harder than everybody else?
The answer is pretty obvious: A superior doping program.

Whether or not Lance really trained harder than anybody else is not the point. The point is that Ms. Crow, either on purpose (and she's definitely not stupid) or inadvertently, indicted Lance for doping. Because it is uncontested that the peloton was filthy and that given the prevalent level of doping there is no way Lance could have trained harder than anybody else without doping (the human body just wouldn't allow it).

Sheryl Crow: No one trained harder than Armstrong

I know it's all about page hits nowadays, but CN, seriously, couldn't you chose a more qualified, more appropriate title for this article?

I mean, I fully understand that a blingy bling celeb talkshow swallows such crap, but for cycling professionals from CN, this shouldn't be so prominent in the title. So consequently, Sheryl has had relationships with all his competitors in order to know that LA trained harder? crap.

But in general, the interview leads me to the following interpretation:

She just wants to have her peace. No trouble with LA, no further LA questions from the media. Looks like she wants to be nice towards LA, but she probably confessed the ugly truth under oath. Just my two cents.

If Sheryl had talked then Armstrong just made her statements that much more damaging with his twitter activity.

It's difficult to tell at this stage how much Armstrong knows about those who have spoken out against him. I have to think some of the information has reached him under the table but not all of it.

She wouldn't be the first scorned woman in history to smile at a guy with her left hand and stab him in the back with her right (not gender bashing but men and women historically have different ways of handling things).

If Birotte is onside for Armstrong, no doubt his liars got to view the file so he would know what Ms Crow said.

Armstrong responded this morning to Crow's comments:

*"I appreciate Sheryl's statement and her sentiments. She's truly one of kind and one of American's great talents. Her vocal pitch and octave range is second to none. No one worked as hard a she did on her singing and songwriting."

hen I see something that I don't like
I gotta say it
We been driving this road
for a mighty long time Payin'
no mind to the signs
Well this neighborhood's changed,
it's all been rearranged
We left that change somewhere behind

Slow down,
you're gonna crash Baby
you were screamin',
it's a blast, blast, blast
Look out babe
you got your blinders on
Everybody's lookin' for a way
to get real gone Real gone, real gone

There's a new cat in town,
he's got high paid friends
Thinks he's gonna change history
You think you know him so well
Yeah you think he's so swell
But he's just perpetuatin' prophecy
Come on now

Slow down, you're gonna crash Baby,
you were screamin', it's a blast, blast, blast
Look out, you got your blinders on
Everybody's lookin' for a way
To get real gone, real gone Real gone, real gone, uh

Well, you can say what you want
but you can't say it 'round here
'Cause they'll catch you and give you a whippin'
Well, I believe I was right when I said you were wrong
You didn't like the sound of that Now did ya?

Slow down, you're gonna crash Baby,
you were screamin', it's a blast, blast, blast
Look out, you got your blinders on
Everybody's lookin' for a way to get real gone

Well, here I come and I'm so not scared
Got my pedal to the metal,
got my hands in the air Well,
look out, you take your blinders off
Everybody's lookin' for a way to get real gone
Real gone, real gone, ooh! Real gone, real gone
