RDV: so out of curiosity, would you have any rec's for Austin, TX? ;)

I have a (small) shop I like for service and small parts who doesn't mind if I order a part on my own he doesn't already have. But I'm always interested in other people's opinions of shops...

Ha! Austin being the one city in TX that I've never been to, that I should go to because it's not very TX. Still not familiar with the southern scene as far as cycling goes, that's all changing since I moved to CO at the beginning of the year.

I do have a favorite band from Austin, Shotgun Party. They're extremely talented!

It is and it isn't...very Texas, that is. I'm a Yankee transplant - grew up in Wisconsin, spent a few years in Minnesota and Kansas before moving here after college. I know very little about the cycling "scene" here, but as I've said elsewhere, I'm a lot lower on the cycling "scale" than a bunch of you guys on the forums, I think.

Can't say I've heard of them, honestly - but I don't get out and about for music much unless I'm playing myself. I play violin in a couple of orchestras around central Texas.

You'd appreciate them, their fiddle (Katy Cox) is Suzuki trained.

Suzuki trained doesn't always mean good - I started out in Suzuki too. ;)

But I'll have to look them up.

had to chuckle at the walmart choice...wonder if anyone is going to tick that...

actually, a few years ago my wife wanted to get into cycling...I backed her but was suspicious...given her track history of getting into things and also my love of riding alone or at least without my wife ect...so we bought her one of the 650 dollar entry bikes from the local LBS...I put on some clipless for her I had kept around from older bikes...she really hated those as she felt she couldnt get out of them no matter what...and believe me I tried to help her...she fell over twice...anyhow, she wanted normal platform pedals like on kids bikes...so indeed, I found a pair of Bell ones at our local wally mart for 5.99...she loved those, but long story short gave up on riding after her 6th ride I believe...the bike has been out in the shed for the last 3 years...maybe someday, right?
