Girls,girls girls.

There are so many guys in racing and the coverage, seeing a few women helps.

We can live longer by being around beautiful women, I believe according to science, even.

As long as there are cheer leaders in other sports...

Podium girls cover up more than cheer leaders...

As much as I think it is weird to see podium girls I don't think it is wrong or bad. It is not in bad taste, cheap etc. It's usually always classy...

I voted for them to remain.

I don't look down on podium girls either. In the situation where it exists, they're going in there and choosing to make a little money. That's fine. I have no problem at all with the girls, I have a problem with the men who decide that they want to pay some girls to stand around and look pretty because I have a problem with the message that I feel that sends out.

Total strawman. Appreciating women for their looks is one thing, specifically constructing scenarios where women are there for nothing but their looks in everday life, that's another. To me the difference between just seeing a pretty girl and paying one to stand around on stage is essentially the difference between a regular restaurant with a cute waitress and Hooters. One is normal and just people being people, the other is a strange artificially constructed scenario that objectifies the women involved. I respect the women involved like I respect anyone - I just think that their job shouldn't exist.

One of the negative consequences of those jobs ceasing to exist would be that podium girls are worse off (since those jobs ceasing to exist doesn't magically create job opportunities the girls would prefer to working as a podium girls).

What are the positive consequences and why do you think they outweigh the negative ones?

Yes, but girls and boys with flowers only.

Perhaps a better way to go?

Yes, simply put, I'd like to have a kiss as a reward. Excluding those of Oman and Qatar, of course:D

i have been watching professional cycling for the last 10 years and this is the first time that i have seen this behavior:(. Most cyclists are pretty much into family and kids or have steady girlfriends. Anyone caught on camera doing something crazy is going to get it when he gets back home.
Sagan appears to be the exception rather than the rule. So i think podium girls should stay.
As regards to opportunity, rather than eliminate the girls 1) remove 2nd & 3rd places or 2) when Sagan is present, make the podium very long and make him stand at the very end so that his hand cannot reach the target.:D

I would love this. No reason for losers getting celebrated. The podium should only be for the winner

:D

option 3. When Sagan present and still to be considered as an imminent danger, then refine the ceremony procedure this way (for illustrative purposes):

Like some girls dont want their men to have lots of endurance and have quick recovery? Men that can keep going on and on for hours in bed, i mean on their bike :D

The opponents of podium girls seem to composed of lascivious prudes lamenting the desirability of those women, and post-modern feminists trembling before the male gaze.
Are you sure about this?

Definition - inclined to lustfulness; wanton; lewd: a lascivious, girl-chasing old man

Seem to remember this race having a somewhat bumpy ride over their attitudes not that long ago.

So for 2012 they used this poster

And Tom Boonen didn't seem to be put off winning

To those that suggest it would cost precious jobs, think again. Most presentations use women associated with the race organisation, not professional models. The woman groped by Sagan works for the RVV organisation's administration.

The ridiculous thing is that they use women for the women's race too!

Apparently there was a podium "guy" at the Ronde van Drenthe - maybe because it's organised by a woman?

http://www.autoweek.com/article/20130405/F1/130409888

It can -- more rarely -- work both ways. Olympic cycling champion Marianne Vos said she got kisses from a podium boy when she won a race in the Netherlands, the Ronde van Drenthe, last month.

"You get the flowers on the podium and you have to get the flowers from somebody and it's nice, for us, if it's a handsome guy or, for the guys, if it's a pretty girl. For me, that's the tradition, that's no problem," she said.
