I was just wondering how skinny a cyclist can get. I wanted to know who deserves the trophy. maybe we should start with three guys off the top of my head:

1- Rasmussen (BMI=19.5)
2- Laiseka (BMI=18.6)
3- Wiggans (BMI=19.9)

As a good measure we should post the BMI so it would be a good neutrilizer.

Include photos if you want.

I started a list of BMIs a while ago but I forgot about it and never finished it. here is what I have so far.

Contador: 19.37

A Schleck: 19.66

F.Schleck: 17.63

Menchov: 20.06

J. Rodrigues: 19.96

Löfkvist: 20.23

Gesink: 19.45

S.Sanchez: 21.22

Rogers: 21.91

I think it's mostly wikipedia sources so there is no guarantee of accuracy.

Those BMIs don't look too bad compared to the chart below, but compared to the pictures... :eek:

Ya, most cyclists seem to fall at the lower end of the healthy spectrum. That makes sense I guess. If they were truly underweight it would probably be hard to compete in an elite level sport.

Ok now, lets not forget the fatties. I am interested in the cyclist that rides/rode at the higest level with a BMI over 25.

I'll nominate the greatest fat cyclist as being Dario Pieri, 1.75 tall and known to race at a very high level at over 80kg = a BMI of around 26.

2nd at Roubaix and 5th at MSR in the same year while looking a bit like my dad. What a man.

Probably one of the big sprinters or TTers - Cancellara, Hushovd, Petacchi, Greipel, etc.; BMI tends to not really recognise if someone's just fat or has lots of muscle on his body.

It is too inaccurate. You have to consider the fat/muscle/skeleton-rate as well, which BMI doesn't

I think Backstedt had an absurdly high BMI when he won Roubaix

david livramento is 182 and 55 kg is 16.1
diego calderon is 171 and 53 kg is 18.1

of the top of my head but I think no one is thinner than livramento

pieri was not 175 but 183 and over 90 kg and during off season over a 100

nick eeckhout is 172 and 79 kg, also very big, but all muscles, pieri was too, except in the winters and later in his career

other "freaks of nature" are someone like brunetta who is 2.04 and 97 kg

Edwig van Hooydonck ("Eddy Bosberg") was pretty spindly back in the day, especially for a cobbles man. And Steven Rooks.

Never 65kg. Definitely not. Perhaps old numbers.
I think he is around 56-59 kg now - and even that is optimistic.
That dude looks like a piece of paper is the skinny-man of usual skinny cyclists.

Klöden has around 63kg at 1,83m.

That is a BMI of 18.5. That is right on the limit for unhealthy.

Frank Schleck and Dekker Tifosi are some of the skinniest cyclist out there with BMI below the 18 mark.:D

But the first place has to go to David Livramento is 182 and 55 kg is 16.1. Who is this guy Ryo? Do you have pictures, or they are too creepy?
