ay ay ay ... cringe worthy.

“It was a really beautiful day for me, maybe even more than the last one,” Landa said. “We saw that Contador had a problem and Katusha rode the group full gas and we collaborated with them.

LOL at least he's not hiding behind excuses! I've always said it's a bike race not a tea party. It simply made the Champ show them what he has and he's the Boss of this race. They may take stage wins but Pink will not be theirs.

Contador started the stage 2:35 ahead, now he is 4:02. Astana Fail no matter how you look at it.

sorry to be a pain but - did Astana / Katusha actually exploit a mechanical ? Haven't seen it and not sure how much is pro-Contador on twitter…?

Yes. Weak, but that's racing.

Landa the strongest rider in the Giro what a joke...now consider this Landa lost 4 minutes in the TT and in today's stage he attacks in the Mortirolo he probably would have not let Contador close down that gap and at the top he would have had a 40 or 50 sec and he could have easily lost that time in the descent and the 5km flat after it with Contador and Kruswijk working together he could have even been distanced in the drag up to the finish after he is drained with spending 35k alone...now tell me who is the strongest

Not entirely likely, but what if Landa had gone and Kruijswijk went with him and Contador was alone chasing both Landa and Kruijswijk.

You can do what ifs forever.

Well yes they did and Landa even admits it LOL! But I hold no grudges as a cycling fan and Alberto fan, it happens. It's a race not a tea party!

Contador is the strongest. The work he did today to get back to the front was insane. Landa only won because he followed wheels and didn't take any turns. Contador will smoke him if they have a one on one battle up a climb.

Well, I agree it's not a tea party, but it isn't exactly classy either. From what I've read Contador rode down a 1min deficit up Mortirolo. Gees. Hope he's not too knackered (but what a ride!)

yes. they did exploit the mechanical as they should have. to quote carol, "it's a race, not a teaparty!"

Just got back home. From what I could actually watch:
- Best stage evah (well, not really, but very good)
- Martinelli is an idiot (no news)
- Landa stronger than AC? Duh. He only had to pull 5 kms on the Mortirolo, And at Aru's pace. And then wheelsucked all the way. We have no clue who was the strongest today. but frankly, WHO THE HELL CARES
- over 1200 posts and only because the forum bonked before the Mortirolo. We could have reached Gardeccia levels :(
- I thought Aru was gonna lose 5 minutes.

Not classy at all, but that is racing. All it did was cause Alberto to put in a Legendary ride that will always be remembered. Yes hopefully he isn't to knackered. But he has 4 minutes now.....

Well said, not a classy move.

With these things I think it also depends on where and how it happens…from what I've read it was not at a place where the momentum of things meant that to show some respect would have changed things significantly.

It's not nice to wish people ill, but I always hope for a bit of karma to pay back double on these matters.

Kind of. He did do the well, Katusha attacked first bit. But at least he manned up and said they collaborated.

though classy moves are nice, i do not believe they should be an expected thing in professional competitions. i am not against classy moves, or waiting for a race leader the leader after a mechanical or crash or whatever. what i am is a firm believer in "life isn't fair, nor was it intended to be."

Weren't Alpe d'Huez and Galibier '11 much even crazier in terms of posts (not to mention the last suisse tt that year, but that was just outrage)

Are you people still thinking of the mechanical? Please stop... It's just a matter of time before somebody mentions the chaingate and the thread goes to **** again...

let's not confuse "mechanical" with "bad shift." :D

i will not be offended should you use your moderator powers to delete this post in the interest of shutting the floodgates before they are fully opened.

That's just an obvious fact everyone agrees with. Where there seems to be disagreement about is on whether it was unfair and whether such unfairness is desirable or not, and in a roundabout way, you seem to coming down on the side that it is.

Missed most of the action unfortunately, but I can see this stage will add to the overall quality of this Giro which is already on a very high level.

Wanted Steven to win the stage, but that was clearly not possible.

A remarkable jersey defense by Contador. Racing like in the good old days.

Chapeau.

It kind of did. Aru flatted between Mortirolo-Aprica as well
