It seems that Garzelli tried very hard to get into a break at the start of today's stage, but he wasn't allowed to.

Thta's rather funny, because Scarponi was allowed to and he's at

38 Michele Scarponi (Ita) Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli 6.19

in the GC.

It's going to be a very interesting race! It seems as if the breakaway is not going to make it today. Garzelli is only 40s ahead of the peloton, and the 2 leaders keep on losing time, with 30 k to go....

Katyusha is leading the peloton!

As I was making a mess and retired from the contest,

I'll say it here: I am not sure that they will make it. According to Paolo Bettini they will face a headwind in the last kilometers. Petacchi is in the peloton. If Rabobank and LPR continue to chase after they take Garzelli, there could be a sprint.

They must be seeing an opportunity for Pozatto.

Scarponi seems really strong, and is a good climber. But when they go downhill that final stretch, I think the pack could regroup and people like Pozatto, perhaps Hagan, the strong classic riders with a good finish, will be able to contest the victory. If Pettachi survives, who knows...

Now Bettini is worried about the finish. A mass sprint was not expected and the finish line is on a very narrow road.

I predict Cancellara...Is he still there?

To Susan:

there is an Italian leading, who is probably faster than his escape mate. I *really* find it a far-fetched assumption that the motorcycles are helping the peloton on purpose.

We are not in Belgium after all! ;)

Seems like Katusha might have lost whoever they were riding for and have stopped working. Peloton isn't going to make it now.

Whoah! Scarponi is so strong, it looks like he might make it! 1:08, and 10s per km on a chasing peloton... only 4k!

With good reason. I hadn't heard anything about it, but when I saw Scarponi hit that finishing straight all I could think was, "good thing a breakaway suceeded." A mass sprint on that road would have been carnage.

i think EbH has a good chance tommoro, i said before the giro started that i thought we would see things from him, he and cavvy are very much the future of team columbia, sorry, team sky...

But i also fancy wiggins to make a breakaway as well, and possibly Dave Millar..
