Also if EBH were a team, he would have more wins then the entire Milram squad. For a team that made a lot of big name signings, that is quite poor.

That is like at the olympics last year. IF Michael Phelps was a country he would have come something like 7 or 8th in the medal tally.:D IIRC

Fun post, Bala.

How are the values for best TT, Sprint, and Climber calculated?

What do those numbers mean?

Thanks in advance for the explanation.

Also, do you have similar stats for previous years? It would be interesting to review the last decade or so to see how riders have either advanced or declined from year to year.

I think het Nieuwsblad stated:

- they only used "official UCI-races up to and including .1-races"
- only finished races count towards km/days of racing
- to calculate sprints, only those finishes were used that actually ended in a bunch sprint.
- for the climber classification only those stages were used that had a 'clear mountainous profile'.
- for the climber classification not the fastest times were recorded, but points were awarded to the ones that finished near the front.
- more points were awarded for 'higher categorized' races.

I haven't found a prior year's rating (yet), and to be honest, I don't know what the actual methodology for calculating the rankings was, besides the aforementioned criteria. There is no source on their website to demonstrate how they came to these conclusions.

Thanks VistorQ, and welcome to the forum!

Here are some names that stuck out that haven't been mentioned already:

Brandt racing 102 days and 16,641km is impressive. Marino Lejarreta would be proud of him. This number doesn't include training; the guy probably rode over twenty thousand kilometers last year easy.

Cancellara's TT numbers are nearly DOUBLE the next person below him, AC.

Would not have thought Greipel and Farrar would be so close to Cav in the sprint numbers. Nor that Thor would be so low, and Boonen a no show.

How is DiLuca the top climber? He didn't even win the KOM at the Giro? One would think Pellizotti, with his strong showing at the Giro, and KOM jersey at the Tour would be tops.

Nice to see Cunego high up there on the KOM list.

Did you (or anyone) see Vino, 8th in the TT classification, beating Millar...

I believe Boonen didn't participate in too many bunch sprints, so he lost out on many points, and his TdF was rather bad...

Didn't di Luca finish top 5 in most Giro mountain stages? That must have added to his total, although I wonder how he could have beaten pellizotti, because in my mind he has been ripping it up in the Giro and the TdF on mountain stages...

Top 4 for kilometrs and 3 are from Lotto. Doesn't that say a lot about their bad management and lack luster year?

No, just that Cadel didn't have it as hard as 3 other riders on his team. Heck with the 97 races he started, Gilbert still managed to win the last 4 of those. All that shows is goals and actual performance are measured differently by separate people.

Seems you've changed your tune. Last week it was BMC = Bad Mistake Cadel and now its back to Silence are useless and managed by monkeys.

Gallic, Gilbert has only won a single monument, Lombardia.

Go have a look at the race footage. Evans was integral to that win, and worked his **** off for Gilbert. You gotta concede that.

Evans could have been selfish, and gone for his own race. He had form, but he worked for Gilbert, even though he knew he was on his way out. Whatever anyone has to say overall about Evans' loyalty and his sleights and problems, they should concede this and get the record correct.

I think that seeing the 3 riders out of the top 4 for km's says that something needs to be changes as some riders are racing too much and others are racing too little.

Firstly, i always have and still do think that it wasn't a great idea for Cadel to move to BMC for the 2010 season. In 2011 once they have got a better list then he could move there. I have been trying to find positives in the move to BMC. It's called being an optimist. Secondly, i always thought Silence Lotto were a bunch of monkeys.

I was one of the first to acknowledge that Cadel helped Gilbert on all four of those wins and highlight it was an odd occurrence given he knew he was joining BMC. It was selfless and proof that Silence and Evans could work well when the team attitude is shared by all. I also have stated before that Silence and Evans had a brilliant September and October and deserve all the accolades and credit for their efforts.

Lomarbia is the only monument of the four, but a win is a win. Paris Tours wasn't too low a race to ignore. My point was to highlight that although Gilbert had a long season, he was in best form at the end of his season.

I will also concede that the statistics show that Silence look like they are spread thin. I wonder what percentage of those races the top 3 boys did are situated in or around Belgium? Is that a negative? Debatable, but Gilbert and Evans saved Silence's season.
