What I don't get is, why did it take so long to find him if his exact location was online for hours. I read he was found by a helicopter? I mean did nobody have the idea to first check the point where everyone expected him to be anyway?

I do not expect, that police knew that and even his wife ... . It is really not probable. Cyclists (runners) knows what strava is, but I would not bet that police will know and even of they will know, that they will know, that he uploaded last ride.

Interesting if I remember correctly, you can pay some fee and then your ride is available online live. Seems to be reasonable to pay ... .
He likely wasn't found at the same place his Strava ride ended. There is no ravine anywhere near as Susan says.

There's various ways. Strava Beacon, Garmin Crash Detection, Various Phone Apps etc sms a contact. His ride was uploaded at 9:52am though, so uploaded mid-ride it seems, so he might have had the thought to stop the ride to see what koms he got while waiting for the helicopter : )

Let me see if I get this right:
His Garmin stopped in one location - where there was also found skid marks - yet he was found in a different location?

So, and this is a completely wild theory, is it possible that he had the accident - which seems to involve being hit by a car*... - then, got up and in his somewhat dazed state from the concussion rode on, before eventually collapsing and falling into the ravine where he was found?

*Of course there is the possibity that the skid marks were from a different, unrelated, situation.

He might well have been able to walk for a while after the crash and then blacked out. When I had a bad crash, I was unconscious at the scene, then regained consciousness, called my wife and walked a mile or so, then blacked out again and woke up 3 days later in intensive care after being in a coma for 3 days. Anything could have happened, I simply don't know anything after the crash itself.
I wouldn't rule him out being crashed by a car and then moved away from the crash scene either. People do crazy things sometimes.
