I think Pogacar looks a fair bit heavier, probably for MSR/Roubaix, it will leave him a more difficult deficit to cover when he needs to lose weight for the tour but his only real rival is doing the giro so he probably won't need to be as sharp for it anyway.
Mate he could win the tour with one eye shut at this current weight. Visma will show up with Anton Shiffer and Bart lemme as climbing domestics. Remco is too far and has too high cortisol. He can win in his sleep

Unless cyclist abi has been right all along, the only man who can give us any hope is Branden McNulty. Come on Branden!!!

Then Seixas' ride is all the more impressive, because he maintained most of that 80K ,and closed in the finale.
We hear that regularly....Remco came back on Pogacar, Jonas showed great recovery in the last 2 km and closed half of his 1 minute back to Tadej.
Tadej rides to win the race and does it well; particularly on courses that reward individual strength. I wouldn't be surprised if the conversation between Pogi and the DS car didn't involve letting Del Toro chill out on the finish so UAE didn't p*ss off fans for taking the top 2 places.
Don't get me wrong: Seixas is impressive.

I expected seixas and del Toro to appear in the background of pog's victory celebrations they were lingering in it so long. Feel like I wasted my time watching this to the end with the hopes of watching the fight for second.

I fell asleep for most of the last 60 km today — it was really boring. Toward the end, the camera work was also pretty poor and they barely managed to capture what little action there was, if any. I heard they removed a lot of the sterrato sections, and it definitely showed in how the race unfolded. Why did they do that?

Anyway, I had been really looking forward to this race, and suddenly… nothing happened. Hopefully next year will be better and the organizers don’t end up ruining the race.
it was almost the exact same route as in 2024 , just a small sector in the start missing

the long sector that was only used last year was the greatest change ( good that it is gone )

the loop where they do the last two sectors twice was introduced in 2024 ( bad change )

For me the best thing to watch about Strade are the long gravel sectors, regardless of the action. So the main problem the race has for me is the TV-coverage starting too late.

I also don't like the extra 30km loop for that reason, but it has nothing to do with the loop making the race too hard. One person has started this talk and everbody seems to repeat it ad infinitum and saying it helps climbers and Pogacar??

The best sector for climbers compared to classic riders is Monte Sante Marie. If the parcours before Sante Marie is about the same, which it is. Then you can not convince me that a 80km solo is easier than a 50km solo. In my oppinion it would be even easier for Pogacar to win on the 2021 parcours everyone loves so much.

Would Wout van Aert and Gianni Vermeersch have podiumed the race without the extra loop or would they even have done better? I don't think so. The extra loop even gives them more time to catch back up after the climbing sector. But it is just a boring drag in the current race constellation.

i wouldnt mind making the race harder and longer but i hate the loop

ive also come around on san martino in grania and i think itd be better to skip that one too and then add the sector from the 2021 giro that can replace the drag up towards montalcino

then you have 4 long sectors in the last 100 km like here :

Not very surprised but bad from Visma still surprised neither WVA nor Jorgenson could even beat Christen/Gianni.

Outside of Vingegaard they can only win sprint stages/races now. Underwhelming performance.(Van Aert has an excuse for now but im def not holding my breath)

Seixas was sexy, didnt lack anything. Impressive to sustain the power at that level in between his bursts when went.

Gianni Vermeersch positive surprise and a very good performance in a full on brute force edition one of his best ever.

Pidcock for his pedigree in this race not what hes used to but higher competition this year just couldnt follow. Maybe a bit unlucky but doubt he could follow for podium today.

as it happened on monte sante marie, the 10 minutes the race lasted

the two main hills are 0.65 km at 10.6 % and 1.2 km at 9.6 %

uae leads the peloton into the sector shortly after the break with grossschartner ahead of vermeersch . pogi moves up from sixth to third wheel immediately . after grossschartner has caught the break , vermeersch starts pulling hard , stringing the peloton out in a line with pogi in his wheel . pidders and jorgenson start the sector up in front . pidders drops his chain on the first small descent while del toro moves up on the wheel of pogi . christen gets up to the front at the start of the first main hill and takes over from vermeersch while seixas has moved up next to pogi . christen drills it and gaps immediately appear which pidders has to bridge across as he moves up over the top of the hill . the group is reduced to nine riders : christen , pogi , del toro , seixas , jorgenson , gregoire , lapeira , pidders , labrosse . pidders moves up to the front of the group before the little hill and the main descent . christen still leads the group and pogi lets a little gap open up to him before the camera cuts away . as we return where the descent is steepest , christen has fallen back and the order is : pogi , pidders , del toro , seixas , jorgenson , gregoire . del toro backs off on the descent so a gap opens and seixas only comes around at the very end when the main hill starts . pidders drops his chain once more as he starts pedaling again , and so pogi is alone ahead . seixas tries to close the gap . first he drops everyone but del toro and jorgenson . then jorgenson drops as the small gap up to pogi remains steady . then del toro drops , and seixas has nearly closed the gap to pogi . just as pogi reaches the top of the hill , seixas can no longer maintain the pace and drops . the race is over . at the end of this segment , the first half of the sector , the gap is 8" to seixas and 33" to the trio of pidders , gregoire and jorgenson .

I fear Pidcock has wasted too many of his good years by racing too few road classics and focusing on MTB, and now he's outclassed by the new generation of mega talents. Like Roglic, a big talent for whom the door slammed shut just by way of the level rising around him.

Perhaps it is not a "waste" if you value MTB as highly as road, but you must always win while you can and not assume the wins will always be there for the taking.

Hard to say about Pidcock when several mechanical problems forced him to chase. So much of these novelty stages are geared to pure individual effort where drafting is minimal. Add some flats or derailleur issues and the energy use becomes super consequential. Del Toro and Seixas really announced the next generation will be tough.
