All too common here in Denver. You can usually find boxes of tacks strewn across 32nd Ave as you arrive in Golden. One time it was so bad that about half a dozen of us dismounted and spent 20min picking them all up. I'm willing to bet that it's employees from the Coors factory because they're always in the same place, right as you pass underneath the bridge. Punks!

Seriously, what is wrong with people? It's not like "we" hurt motorists

We wear tight clothes and still ride bikes past the age of 16. Of course we're threatening to the general motoring population! :D

We had someone who put tacks and broken glass on the race circuit the only person who got a flat was the local Police motor bike .

The Cop hunted the guy down eventualy so I can tell you he managed to find hundreds of charges to lay against him.
By doing that he had to defend in court so made it worse.

I just looked up nail magnets and sweepers they start at 9 bucks, probably a little big for an under the seat bag or jersey pocket. I bought and used one after having some work done on the house and kids were coming to play in the yard. I was amazed at how many nails were out there and other chunks of metal

I don't wear tight clothes. And living in a country where the age for getting a license is 18 I'd like to know what to do with the two years between 16 and 18. :p

Then again... I don't even have a license, I'm 23!

hihihihihihihi :p I have it a year already :p
We don't have too much problems with this in Belgium, only on the bike lanes next to big roads.

Whilst I agree with the sentiments expressed in the postings - like all cyclists I have suffered my share of glass punctures and contempt from passing motorists, are we cyclists not in danger of becoming too strident?

The news article link in this thread alludes to cyclists riding in large bunches, two or three abreast I think. Some of the people I ride with tend to push this at times, especially on narrow roads. Give and take should apply to both sides, surely?

I'm glad the tack strewer is getting prosecuted - what a d#rk!

However there is a danger of us becoming anti car drivers because of the actions of one fool. Our responsibilities as road users should not be down played. If we sink to the lowest level of the worst drivers (don't think about other road users) aren't we as bad?

My genuine thoughts anyway. Flame away!

Fitting punishment?

Sunday morning rides through the inner suburbs of Melbourne are a real joy with all the broken glass strewn over the roads.

I suggest that anyone caught breaking glass (or dropping tacks) on the roads be sentenced to community service of repairing punctures or driving home riders who've suffered a puncture. :D

When I see the obvious liquor bottle broken on the road, mainly bike riding section, I imagine some kind of roaming camera snapping who dropped the glass bottle and then sweeping it up into a bag and then spreading it on that persons front door way.
