The low-ish level in these last stages it's the result of Visma strategy, to ride like madmen from stage one. Pogi showed he's solid also in an attritional race but the sum of a sub-par team and a relentless tension from visma exhausted him. Luckily Jonas suffered more from his team strategy so a well deserved win.
I'm just kinda hoping that on Sunday he tries to win in yellow on the Champs.

Yes, but is another feeling.
We've seen him win after races of rain like in the 2019 Vuelta and other races, exhausted, baut he conveys a different feeling.

It also shows in his voice.
He has the voice of someone who has had a cold or flu.

Tbf, if all the riders didn't race that would end up in front of me, today, even I could have won. If someone gave me a motorbike as well and taught me how to drive it. But that's still a 20% chance of me winning if no one else is in front of me.

There was stage 11 of last years Tour, he beat him in a sprint there.
Today I found hard to read how he was, I could imagine them being pretty tired at the end, it's possible to loose a sprint then, he paced a lot on this climb while Vingegaard didn't. If Pogi felt well and that he could do it, he would have started a long sprint early enough to still catch Arensman I believe.

Yep, all that trying and they still 4 1/2 minutes behind. Well earned yellow jersey and some much deserved recuperation.

I think the crash and the illness affected him this tour.
Maybe the effect wasnt there directly the stage after the impact. But it seems to have an impact.
Despite of this he still could have won 6 stages again if his team was a little bit stronger.

Last year was his perfect tour de france. Maybe he will never have such a great grand tour again.
You never know.

1) Crashed
2) Was sick
3) Was brake-checked by the Visma team car
4) Pushed by the finish line steward.
5) Had to waste time retrieving his shoe from Visma's arse after multiple stages.

It's not surprising the guy's tired.

Visma's masterplan of making bike racing as unpleasant, tiresome and boring as possible for pog is working perfectly. Pog at the finish today looks like a guy ready to put the bike in the shed.

Maybe Visma's marter plan was to annoy Pogacar in the Tour so much that he needs Urska to comfort him, and those he doesn't go to the Vuelta, so Vingegaard can win a GC?

That's why he has to go for the fifth Tour next year. Never know if he might have accidents or when his level will drop.

Once he wins five, he can give up on the Tour or take it easy, but he has to get into the group of five winners.

I think the accident and illness have affected him more than Visma's supposed plan.

The Tour is by far the hardest GT because of the pressure and level, and finishing it after an accident and being sick is the truly exhausting part.

So he wasn't on energy saving mode for vuelta/wc but simply wasn't at his best since peyregudes b/c without vuelta im sure pog wouldn't let go ventoux & loze

Pogacar seemed very tired today. I think he looks more tired than he was at this point last year (and he had already ridden the Giro).
He's still the strongest in the peloton tho. Maybe he can still get to the 5st win in this Tour.

Maybe some sports psychology is in order. And possibly a reduced schedule if the psychology isn’t enough. I can think of 10’s of millions of reasons why he should openly complain about the duration of the pinnacle of his sport.

Sounds like a good plan to rest and recharge for the targets at the end of the season, Worlds and Lombardia. I think he needs a couple of races before the worlds but not sure whether travel to Canada for two one day races before then travelling to Rwanda makes logistical sense. What else could fit the schedule as warm up races that UAE are riding?

Plenty of riders prefer classics to GTs. It's the most high profile race of the season with lots going around it- not surprised if they prefer the quieter races. Nothing to do with how much someone is paid.

Just for comparison purposes, Pogacar's salary is about 20% less than the average NBA player salary, and he's at the top of of his sport. I'd say he has a far longer schedule as well. And NBA players complain all the time (and rightfully so) about the length of the season and having to play on back-to-back nights.
