Love his new schedule. Got *** bored of him doing UAE Tour over and over and while I love T-A, him slapping down everyone there again would've been boring as *** as well.
Strade is a shame but also understandable given that he just won it last year. It's the main thing that annoys me about Strade, while it's at a great spot overall in the year, it really colludes with 2 of the best one week races we have in PN-TA.

Overall I feel Tadej is starting to have a bit more of a say in his schedule with regards to their sponsors, him dodging useless UAE Tour is a great start.

Roglic skipping Liege this year and Lombardia in 2020 says hi
Defending winner? No.

2020 was about optimal prep for the Tour (and he had quite the intense racing program that year). That's why I didn't use focus on the Giro as a reason to skip Liège as an example, as GTs are clearly higher in the pecking order than monuments. One-week stage races are not more important than the most important one-day races.

If RCS didn't use Strade to lift Tirreno, but wanted the best startlist, they could easily move it to Friday.

But why are you comparing this to a monument in the first place? Your argument was that it proves that Strade isn't on the shelf right below monuments, yet you proceed to compare this situation to how people would act regarding a monument...

Because there are no one-week stage races clashing with or immediately following Amstel and Gent - Wevelgem that would attract a winner of those races.

The only defending champions skipping those races recently have been MvdP (to focus on MTB ahead of the OG) and Di Luca (to focus on the Giro and following previous illness in his preparations). Which is not that different to what causes riders to skip monuments.

Strade is clearly not treated as a high prestige race.

Strade Bianche is not considered a monument because of it's novelty and length. It's toughness and the fact that PN starts the day after, are the only reasons why Pog, unfortunately, has decided to forgo it this time. It should be lengthened and placed between MSR and PR and then it won't be skipped.

I think it’s treated at least as high as any of the non monuments, and the start lists have enough big names to confirm that. If the non monuments aren’t a big deal then I suppose you could say the same for this but it seems they’re a relatively big deal.

I definitely don't see much difference between Van der Poel's decision and this one.

I also don't really see why we should fixate so much on defending winners but I guess your case would sink to the ground immediately if we were just looking at strength of start list.

I think the main question is why he chose to ride Paris-Nice over Tirreno?
Once it was said that he'll ride PN, it was all but sure he is skipping Strade.
He probably just wanted to try new things. He already won Tirreno twice so now it's time to go for PN victory.

Also, in the interview with Sporza, he said he did contemplate going for the Strade-PN combo but it looks like the presence of the long TTT was pretty much the deciding factor in him skipping Strade. He said he wanted to go to France early so that he could train with his team for the TTT. He said that if he went with the Strade-PN combo, he would not have been able to practice with the team for the TTT. He did imply that he's open to doing the combo in the future.

And to the boredom: today's "climbing" stage looked like a fast club ride.

I can name dozens of riders on the startlist of Catalunya who could win GW and unlike Strade and PN those races actually overlap.

I dunno. There was no tight battle at last year's TA as Pog annihilated everybody on Carpegna. This year he looks equally eager to sweep early season. As for Vinge, he will be solid but for him the Tour is still very far so there's a lot of time to prepare his monster peak. Hopefully there will be good racing at PN.
