If pog is focusing on Liege, why race a few days before a big race, after just winning a classic a few days ago? You wouldn't. Here to try and win.

Pogi seems very popular. And winning is better than being liked by the peloton.
I agree he'll go for the win, as I stated. I'm not sure, however, making enemies is prudent. It's better after a badly timed fall or mechanical at the Tour, for example, to have friends in the peloton.

Lol, you dont need friends if there is Moviestar. No one will wait, friend or enemy. There is no more romantic things in pro sports.
Other racers will tell stories to grandchilds that they were racing with Pogi.

No, when there are common interests and on friendly terms help can come from unexpected rivals.

Fair, but that’s more what I meant, both being on a good day where they can have a proper duel. Opposed to when one of the 2 doesn’t remotely factor into the race.

But how will we know. And there will hardly be consensus on these pages. Pog wins, Remco was just coming off altitude. Remco wins, Pog just running out of steam after an amazing spring. No one will ever agree they were both at their top.

Until they both face off in the Tour, there will always be some doubt, however, as far as this Liege is concerned, we won't be far off the mark.

Pog wins, Pog was running out of steam and Remco was in super form getting ready for the Giro in two weeks.
Remco wins, Pog was in his best ever form, dominating Ronde and Amstel and Remco had not raced for a month coming from altitude without adaptation.

It’s called bad legs.

He just had outsprinted WVA at Montreal (who was himself targeting the worlds). Lol. Pog even tried to separate from the pack and couldn’t. And Mas was coming out of the Vuelta in the best shape of his life. And Pog giving it up for Tratnik against Remco. That is utterly ridiculous.

Pog was in superb form and targeting the worlds. Just because he is the most dominant rider right now does not mean he cannot get beat. Wtf r u all smoking?

What a joy to have a civil discussion with you. Maybe you should start to smoke some of the good stuff. Might help you to relax instead of getting triggered by message board posts...

I personally think Remco should be in better relative form right now. It’s a bigger race for him than Pogacar and he’s closer to peak Giro form. I’d normally rate their odds at 40% Remco, 60% Pog on this race, so if Remco is in slightly better relative form I consider it about 50/50. I do think if it’s a close race then whoever wins should get full respect though.

I don't think you make enemies by beating people through being the better rider. I think you make them by being a jerk in the peloton because you think you deserve xyz or disrespect other riders. Pog in that department seems very relaxed and is always keen to congratulate others and not demand special treatment, apart from RVV that one year where he went from guaranteed second to fourth against mvdp... He was not so charming then ha ha.

Glad the "he doesn't perform at FW" narrative is now at least put to bed. He didn't look astronomical considering the meh competition, but he did exactly as much as he had to. Another one off the list.

Interesting comment by Maurizio Fondriest in today's la Gazzetta dello Sport, which sort of echoes what Bruyneel said about Tadej winning "too much" and getting the whole field against him:

"I'm curious to see what kind of course UAE will impose on the race, if Pogacar will "make" the race or, having already won so much, he will leave space to the others [on the team] whilst keeping himself for Liege. If I were him, I'd opt for the second hypothesis, because he's already won so much and could become annoying."

Could it be that within che clycling's inner sphere Tadej already has become "annoying"?

Personally I don't think he'll "gift" anything away and that he wants the Ardennes triple-crown, however, there is something to be said about being a modern-day Cannibal and the deleterious effects it could levy upon UAE, which I get the sense is already not the most well-liked team in the pack. Just my 2 cents.
Plenty of races he did not win! Like MSR
