I think today doesn’t tell a lot yet.

After all, Pinot/Woods/Lafay finished with Pogi…

I think Pog likes to go for these sprints after hard stages, but it‘ll be the long climbs of Alps and Pyrenees that count.

If Vingegaard really further improved since Dauphine few weeks ago, then Pog probably won‘t have a chance again, just like last year.

How come? Because Pogacar didn't attack full gas on Pike on the first stage of a 21-day race for a gain of 4 seconds if he and Vingegaard finished 1-2 on the stage?
To me his attack wasn't much of attack, he raised the tempo after Yates led him out, but not at all the pace shifting of glorious days past. He looked more or less empty while Vinge just sat there quietly observing , controlling and so nothing happened. Is that a sign of Pogacar in glimmering form? i think not, Vinge is just waiting for the high Mountains and as it looks now to me will easily (relatively, no one is easily riding away from Pog) ride away from Pog from there. but a lot can happen until then, but that is how it looks now

Teddy knows the Tour is in the bag. He only has to stick to Skeletor's wheel for the remaining 3 weeks and sprint a few times. Easy peasy.

In the bag? Hmmmm...so true. When we compare styles, call riders "The New...", watch today's race again, blurr the picture, un-blurr and you see Nibali.

Tadej Pogacar has that thing and more, which is scary. He's the best. He is The New Man With The Bag. He showed his true colors today: blood. There's no stopping him.

this makes no sense, how did this "empty guy" outsprint everybody at the finish ?

That half-attack was probably to see if Vinge is concentrated, because if he isn't and Poga end up opening a gap, it will be difficult to close it since he has a better initial burst of speed but it was too telegraphed and Vinge knew what coming up.

Don't let this small victory paper of the cracks, UAE needs to improve their team cohesion as soon as possible because Jumbo looks better in that department.

UAE should be happiest for the 4 bonus seconds Pogacar got today.
Actually, that doesn't help their defense strategy. JV just needs to mind Yates' friskiness and UAE has to protect against everyone else. What will be interesting is the opportunities to give up the lead to another candidate. Who might that be? UAE can't take a 3 week control strategy and win this Tour.

I think Vingegaard had a bigger chance to show chinks on this stage than Pogacar but so far nothing noteworthy for either of them. Would be interesting to know how much Pog left in the tank when accelerating after Yates’ pull and why he didn’t follow Yates on the final attack either, seeing as Yates said he was a bit surprised the DS told him to keep riding to the finish.

Why would Pog follow Yates’ attack there? He let it go to put Jumbo in somewhat of a dilemma where they have to chase for Wout’s stage win but risk Vingegaard losing 10 seconds if Pog won the stage and Jonas didn’t finish in the top 3. If Pog followed Yates there, everyone in the group including their families and friends would just latch on to his wheel and Yates just wasted energy attacking.

Last year I was a bit angry that UAE really chased hard at La Super Planche des Belles Filles and on other stages. I think that cost them a lot at the end. I also think they will learn from their mistakes this year and ride smarter. Yesterday we saw that Pog isn't just attacking junior style but is riding smart. Without Roglic and with Van Aert, who seems to be a bit weaker then last year but has ambitions for stages like today, Jumbo Visma can't put so much pressure like last year on Pog.
I hope UAE doesn't ride today and lets JV or Alpecin do the work. If there is a good situation Yates and Pog can attack for the stage or bonus seconds on the last climb.

"Ice baths are a popular method of recovering after an injury, especially in sports. "
edit - seems I was beaten to the answer! But if true, it makes me wonder how well Pogacar is.
Doesnt have to be an injury.

Plenty of footballers get into an ice bath after a match. It is good for the muscles. As they get swollen etc from all the running. I guess it is same with the legs for a cyclist... with all the pedaling.

I think it is mainly because of the recovery aspects. Also, how warm was it yesterday? Getting into an ice bath after a hot day doesnt sound too bad either.

It is also been a trend to go for a bath in a lake or the ocean, even during the winter. Supposedly for the health benefits. You are not in the water for more than a minute or so. Mainly you step down from a ladder. Dip your body into the water, to the chin, and then you just go up the ladder again. It has become popular to do so in my country at least.
