UAE to Jumbo the Tour with first five places.
They had a large part of this team in the Vuelta this year. They were no competition at all for Jumbo. Not necessarily because they weren't strong enough, but because they don't operate as a team. That stage Vingegaard won as a tribute to Van Hooydonck, all the criticism focused on Jumbo but the real fault was with UAE. What the hell were they doing?

They need to sort out their team tactics to really be a threat. Usually having Pogacar in the race unites them a little bit, but Ayuso and Almeida have already indicated they don't want to ride for him. So that should be interesting.

A little sad about LBL but I guess this is a sign he is taking the challenge of the double very seriously. The dominant hilly classics rider of his generation not having had a proper shot at LBL for 3 consecutive years will definitely be weird though.

He plans to attend the LBL, only skips Flanders.

and Vinge and JV will now walk the Tour
Probably, but not a given. The 2024 Giro has much less climbing than this year and also way less climbing than 2011 when it was too much for Contador. Then consider Pogacar's prep this year was interrupted by his LBL crash - I say the lack of base condition contributed to his collapse on stage 17.

So I think there is still hope with perfect prep and no crashes Pogacar can push Vingegaard at the TdF - assuming he wins the Giro.

So I suppose Pogacar will try to out do MvdP too by doing lead outs for Molano at the Giro?
Lord I hope Soler does the Tour as well, as it will be a real circus even without him. Popcorn shortage predicted in June & July next year!

"Every year I had the Giro d'Italia in my plan, but the team and I never committed to it until this year. There will definitely be some year when I miss also the Tour de France. It is the biggest race, but there are other attractive destinations in cycling.” -pogi

What ambitions can be best had by taking July off??

Giro:
  • Tadej Pogačar
  • Jay Vine
  • Rafal Majka
  • Felix Grosschartner
  • Rui Oliveira
  • Sebastian Molano
  • Mikkel Bjerg
  • Domen Novak

Tour:
  • Tadej Pogačar
  • Juan Ayuso
  • Adam Yates
  • Joao Almeida
  • ...
So for the Tour it looks like all in. UAE participating with all the best GC riders.
It's the best strategy because they recognize that pogacar can't beat Vingegaard in a mano a mano, in a grand tour. They will try to isolate vingegaard, and do to vingegaard, what they did to pogacar on galibier in 2022.

Despite the crash and not perfect prep, Pog was still way much better than th rest. And who's coming to the Giro, G?

Now more seriously, they should've let Roglic go, and put emirates team working in the front, to chase him.

Maybe they will let Rogla go at the Tour 2024? Considering this is not his thing. Pogi, Jonas and Remco, among others, knowing it.

Fingers crossed.

Majka, Vine and Grosschartner doesn't scream much support, especially once the aussie crashes off.

I would take at least McNulty and Fisher Black instead of Molano and Oliveira.

Pogacar, Vine, Majka, McNulty, Grosschartner, Fisher Black, Bjerg, Novak would be more reliable, despite not having a secondary leader.

I think most agree Pog should win the Giro. The big question is how good he will be for the Tour? To be realistic knowing what happened this year, I would tip Vingegaard a 90% chance to win the TdF again. Pog 10%. I modified these estimates from 99% / 1% after reading about the gentler Giro route next year.

The other thing we don’t know is what other races Pog will target in 2024? When I say target I mean really target, not just race.

Pog will not stand a chance against Vinge.

Apparently Matxin has given a press conference today where he have lots of news about Pogacar and his team's schedule in 2024.

Pogacar will target Strade, Tirreno and MSR before the giro and won't do any Flemish or ardenne classic. He will do around 10 race days before the giro.

He confirmed Pogacar will target the giro + tour double.

He said the team that supports Pogacar on giro will be:

Pogacar
Vine
Majka
Grosschrartner
Rui Oliveiroa
Molano
Novak
Bjerg

He also said these riders will target le Tour:

Pogacar
A Yates
Ajuso
Almida

Bjerg to the Giro makes sense. He said on a Danish podcast that he would try to opt out of the Tour due to Olympic ambitions.

Yes according to HLN and Sporza: The program of Tadej Pogacar DOES NOT contain Tirreno-Adriatico. But instead, he would ride Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.

I find that little wired. Only have 2 races days before Catalunya. Plus MSM and Catalunya is only 1 day apart.

Really can't see his spring program being SB, MSM and Catalunya. So weird program to me...

Rest of the program is amazing! I would have skipped the Tour.. But then again, maybe he can put the Giro to bed already in week 1 and use the last 2 week as prep for the Tour. Said in all respect to G and others.
