Of course legs matter most, but intelligence also matters and he also says that in the end. Sure, if you have Pog's capacity you can get away with not racing supersmart.

Mvdp used to attack like a mad man, then he realized it didn't really work and now he races more calculated.

Not everyone can attack 80k out and make it! :)
He could not get away with sprinting and constantly going for bonus seconds or chasing everyone down in the last two Tours and still win the GC (last year his injury leading up was a factor too), but this quote indicates clearly that he has still not learned that conserving energy matters in a long stage race with a very hard 3rd week. In 2022 Jumbo played it brilliantly with the Roglic attack which was a complete bluff as most people knew that after his crash he was not a real threat. That was intelligent by Jumbo to play that card, and less intelligent by Pogacar to follow all of his attacks that day

But Pogacar was alone with no teammates to help, he can’t just let Roglic ride away when WVA is ahead with the descent and valley to pace Roglic away.

Intelligence matter for everyone else more than Pogacar. Jumbo is forced to ride like that with Vingegaard cause they know Pogacar is the best so I dont fault Vingegaard to much for it but by god is it hard to cheer for that way of racing:tearsofjoy: I agree with Evenpoel 100% its just not it .

And yes I get Vingegaard have to race like this cause Pogacar is stronger its no other justification for it unless ppl wanne tell themself more lies like it isnt defensive racing etc. At the end of the day I think its blowned out of proportion and just food for journalist, Vingegaard plays to his strenghts and its not his fault he is not as strong as those two in that terrain. Just to bad thats the rep he has gotten from it now and it sticks, Evenpoel labbeled him, cant go on social media without it beeing all over.

Evenpoel and Pogacar all the way though just on this matter while having nothing against Vingegaard personal its just hard to justify cheering for that way of racing it just is, nothing else. If Vingegaard dropped everyone tomorrow and rode alone to the finish would be the most epic thing that could happen!:grinning:

Another rest day for him. With this type of riding, I can't see him feeling Giro's fatigue. He went deep on gravel sections but had 2 rest days after that. Tomorrow he can go hard because the next 2 stages are very easy.

he will definitely attack tomorrow.

I really hope remco can follow (however unlikely) and the two of them get away. an attack by those two together and alone has been a cycling fan's dream for the last 5 years.

If he had legs way stronger than everybody else, the gaps would be bigger in GC, especially against three guys who had crashes and injuries in the last months. (Of course Vingegaard had worse injuries than Roglic and Remco, yet all of them had problems).
Well this would suggest that maybe Pogacar had some real limitations based on his wrist rehab last year and, possibly; Jonas wasn't has hurt as we were led to believe.
Something that none....I mean absolutely none of Vindegaard's fans took into consideration in their adulation over last year's Tour. They should now because week 3 is on the horizon.
That's when the bills come due.

It's unfair comparing the injuries both had.

The injury Pogacar had, is nothing compared with the injuries Vingegaard had. Pogacar was very soon on the turbo trainer. Vingegaard was weeks in the hospital.

I'm not talking about fairness. It's the realistic appraisal of fan prejudice and delusion. Many here were saying Jonas was going to drop everyone on the first opportunity.
As for the injuries; he doesn't appear to have any posture issues related to his crash. Pogacar, on the other hand; had to deal with a painful wrist for the entire Tour. His lack of racing form showed and we can't be sure that training deficit won't show up for Jonas.

Its hard to compare injuries for us. I read Pogacar even rode with pain on his bike we have no idea how much that affect his recovery during stages and not. Hand injury on a bike can be very complicated and lingering. Vingegaard was more ugly crash yes indeed but it was also further away from the Tour and he is without any broken bones etc. My point is thats a very slippery rope to judge impossible to tell for anyone of us and speculation unless your the doctor/trainer of both. For me that part is hella impressive of both. Who was most affected fromt the crash at the Tour is speculation unless your the doctor of both.

So Pogi is all about legs, Jonas says he is on intelligence, Remco hinting he is riding on balls, Rogla likely a bit of everything and a bit hard to tell, from interviews. Good representation of different approaches.

We can be happy.

Vingegaard broke his collar bone and several ribs.
