Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

Page 828 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
I assume WC will return to August after le tour, which will be Pogi's main problem. If so, running the giro again will extract the necessary energy. Pogi will want to collect as many WCRR as he possibly can. One is great, but 3 is even better.
I believe the August Worlds will be every 4 years, when it is in conjunction with most of the other cycling world championships, so next in 20127. Otherwise late September.

Edit: inaccurate fingers rather than reversing timeline.

Pog's 2024 season can be looked at (among many) from this angle:
He competed in 9 separate races (if we count stage races as a single race) and he won 7 of them.
Not even the currently reigning GOAT approached this stat.
Now you might say "he only competes when he's sure he'll win" but Tour/Giro/WC/Liege/Strade don't look exactly as races one would pick for being easy to win.
He only failed at MSR (3rd) and Quebec(admitted a tactical mistake).

pretty much in style to round of the season
I really thought 100km was too far, but when the Belgium team was blown within a lap, I knew it wasn't too far.

It's crazy. People do not understand how much stronger than everyone else you have to be to be able to pull this off. And I don't even think this was top form pogi. TDF Pogi was better..
Isanity. Noboby can stop this man but himself.

I still would consider Van der Poel to be the best classics rider. But Pogacar is definitely the best one day racer.
How does that even work? Sounds like pure copium.

Maybe you could say MVDP is the best cobbled classics rider but if Tadej rode more of them it would severely cut into MVDPs record of dominance.

The Ronde Van Vlaanderen is the closest to 50/50 parity in parcours suitability for both riders and in two editions MVDP has never dropped Pogacar.

GOAT

I guess the GOAT was really impressed by best cyclist of current generation ;)

“What he did is unbelievable. I have no words for it,” Merckx told Le Parisien. He could not believe his eyes when Pogacar attacked a hundred kilometers from the finish. “You have to be crazy for that,” he sounded laughing. “When he attacked, I started to fear him. I was sure that Tadej had left way too early. Normally it is impossible to win after such a long attack, but Tadej did it.”

“He’s the strongest rider of his generation. There is no doubt about that,” said the 79-year-old Merckx. “You know, it takes a lot to blow my socks off at my age. Well, Tadej has succeeded. I suspected he could be world champion, but never like this. He’s really the best – congratulations.”
