Whatever it is, I agree this will likely make two GTs uncompetitive, though I much rather take another 2011 Giro over the last two "super competitive" races. I also think that if Vingegaard wants to put his name into the history books he should absolutely follow Pogi to the Giro. This might be the best chance of a giro-tour double of his career as all he has to do is beating Pogacar mano a mano twice (really making that sound easier than it is). If Vingegaard ever does the Giro in the future, Pogacar will immediately put his entire focus on the Tour.

Poggi went for three TdF's in a row. VInge will make it this year. When Pog wins Giro, I think he'll skip TdF and goes for Vuelta instead.

Many of you seem to think this is Pog abolishing his TDF hopes and "settling" for Giro win in combination with other classics/stage races. I don't think this is Pog's intention at all. I actually believe this is a part of his strategy to improve his chances in TDF. Instead of going for the classics, he will optimise his training for stage racing in 2024. Him going for the Giro with its lighter course and lack of competition could serve as a buildup on the road to the Tour. So if anything, I see this as a declaration of war on Vinge in TDF. Of course, this theory will need to be confirmed by him cancelling his classics/monuments appearance in the next couple of weeks...

I dont think Visma will gamble and send Vinge to Giro, this year, to attempt the double. Not with Van Aert already riding the Giro as well.

3rd Tour will be the big priority.

With Roglic, Evenepoel, Ayuso and others... the race will be quite different than the past years. Dynamics will be different. More teams will be involved. It wont be just UAE vs Visma.

I think 2025 he might do Giro-Tour instead.

If he wins the Giro and skips the Tour it will allow him to train specifically for the Olympic course and arrive fresher. He would also have time to manipulate his body weight for whatever would work best on the Olympic course. If it's a tough classics course maybe he could gain a kilo or 2 of muscle if that would help with battling Wout and MvdP.

Idk about skipping it, it sure seemed like doing the Tour was decent prep for Glasgow RR this year. Whereas it might have been the reverse for the ITT.

But maybe Teddy can fold his GC ambitions early in the Tour and take a few days off during the 3 weeks. If he was truly going to sacrifice the Tour de France for Olympics; which I find very doubtful.

Vincenzo says Pogacar is doing the right thing, and who are we to argue with that. Do we know if Pogacar decided doing the Giro or did the team management decide?
Personally I think it's good for cycling that the Giro gets some glory back from the Tour, but I still would be very surprised if Pogacar tries for the Giro/Tour double.

Or Dumoulin, for that matter. But Pog doesn't have the luxury of waiting for Vingegaard to retire.

Riding the Giro doesn't help you win the Olympics, but that's not what I said. I said he's riding the Giro, because he wants to win the Olympics.

With the stature of Pogacar you have to go for a GT win every season. Since he also really wants to shine at the olympics, he can't do an all out TDF beforehand. So doing the Giro will get him that GT win (probably, if he's unlucky he might lose it by getting COVID), and then focus on the Olympics by riding the TDF like MVDP did this year. Ride it as a preparation for the Olympics, get some stage wins, but don't go all out every stage. Basically the same thing WVA is doing.
