This. Pogacar would have to win this TT by 1.30 minutes to come close.

I would go further and argue he would need to win it by more than 3min at the very least given that the stage 16 tdf TT was half the distance and around 32min, and the gap from Jonas to the next best after pogi was 3min (WVA).

I also agree with scribers, it was insane.

Probably, because Pogacar himself said in a interview after the Tour France 2023, that he could never do the performance Vingegaard did on that day. He said he could do a little better, but in the best scenario he always would lose 1 minute. He himself said on that interview he can't do the numbers that Vingegaard produced on that day. So yeah, probably you are right.

EDIT: Sorry, read it as mountain stage at first, not MTF. Only Armstrong in 1999 and 2001 then.

After the flat first 34 km, Ganna was ahead of Pogi by 47".

Ur from denmark i see hehe not sure if i even wanne type cause yeah.. Anyway its called pacing. Thomas lost in last 6km too so did others, the end had more with right pacing than climbing as 1.2 +1.4km is not enough in itself at all, rest downhill and flat so after a very demanding tt it was more about pacing than anything else. 6km with 4.4% overall is poggio ish a terrain ganna is steller in too. We rarely see this distance in GTs anymore. This was very much like last years WC TT. Ganna along with Remco is the benchmark in the worlds of regular TT's like this so its a big thing ofc the rumours have been flying already for a long time from talking to riders about pogacar but neverheless.

Although i agree that jonas' last year TT was amazing, its quite ridiculous to compare the time gaps with yesterday's pogi performance. Last year there was a 1.3 km 9% climb at the beginning and technical downhill a bit of flat then 2.5 km 9.5% with 3.5 km 5%. Its a lot more uphill than yesterdays. Its logical jonas took more time that day but lets be honest he also took significant time on the downhill.

In fact I think Ganna did a better (his pace was better) time trial than Pogacar given the circunstances (very hard climb and an irregular section of 5 km with a lot of ups and downs thst favoured Pogi). IMHO Pogacar did a very controllable TT. In the first time check he was warming up, get used to the bike and cruising. Due to losing 44 seconds, he thought "oh, if I want to win I need to increase the pace" and he was doing a similar time to Ganna in the second time check (a flat section too) and this shows he could be way faster in the first time check. In the third time check he just put the hammer down by completely nuke that climb. I don't know about you guys but I really think Pogi could beat Ganna by more than 30 seconds.

This guy is almost training in this Giro and it is more likely a detraining than tiredness for the Tour.

It kinda feels like people in the team told him to turn it back a little after his move on stage 3. I'd prefer him to keep attacking all the time but I would be lying if I told you I don't think this is smart. He has a comfortable gc gap, now it should all be about conserving as much energy as possible.

Very measured and controlled, which is a good thing being in the position he is.

Looked like he had a lot more in the tank, while everybody else on the limit or saving their matches for the fight on being on the podium later.

Still lots of the secondary GC-guys like Bardet, Plapp, Lopez, Lutsenko etc. lost a bunch of time. Was a bit disappointing though for sure.

I don't think the stages are comparable.

On stage 3, there was clearly no intent to make a move himself beforehand, just get in good positino and see if something happens. Stage 4 he said himself he was out of position, but I didn't really check or look for that. Both stages he has a much better chance if he made a move himself.
