Would he be limited to the standard solo attack up/down Poggio, or do you think he could win with something more audacious like a move on Capo Berta?

Already seen as he was a young great talent coming up from racing in small cycling country. Racing for small clubs and going under the radar. Had very good results.
Developed great during his formative years and won the biggest U23 race against older riders at the time.
His first pro season you could already see he was something special.

Let's not conflate Remco himself and the way he reflects on what's happening on one side AND qualities attributed to him by passionate fans (Pogacar anti-fans) on the other one. Yes, Remco is considerably inferior when it comes to both induvidual engine and sprinting. As of the 2024 season. What's next remains to be seen.
End of season update. Let's tick some more boxes next year, hopefully MSR after several near misses.
Amazing athlete. Perhaps the most gifted physically cyclist ever. What caught my eye as early as in 2019-2020 was that where almost everyone struggles, twists himself into knots, and pushes the pedals with the entire body, Pogacar just pedals smoothly, with almost no unnecessary upper body movements, even while dancing on the pedals. He has an incredibly strong shoulder girdle, core and back muscles as well as obviously exceptional cardiovascular system.
I have zero doubt that his victories are a bit assisted, but that doesn’t take away my humble estimation. His competitors made the right decision not to respond. Competing with him is impossible. Are we lucky to witness his victories? I think not. At least, I’d rather be lucky in a hundred other things. ))
His victory isn’t surprising… What really surprised me was the time trial to PdbF, where Pogacar took the jersey from Roglic, hammering on a bigger gear on a 9-10% gradient, or how he dropped everyone by 3 minutes on the first mountain stage of the 2021 TdF, or how he lost 3 or 4 minutes on the climb to Courchevel a year ago... But victories like yesterday's are just the norm in modern cycling.
And yet. He will never get popped. Ill-wishers, quit dreaming about it. The UCI won’t shoot themselves in the foot. After LA, punishing Pogacar would be like admitting that professsinal cycling doesn't mind losing half it legacy. Never gonna happen.

it's mostly down to commercial purposes me thinks. In Benelux, Branantse Pijl getssold better than Montreal.
Prolly, I'd also clearly rate the Canadian races higher than Paris-Tours and even Emilia despite its recents winners and history. Its still mainly part of the Italian autumn leading up to Lombardia and it isn't WT.

I'm still waiting for Remco to catch Pogacar in Zurich and Lombardia, they were telling me Remco might catch Pogacar on rolling terrain.
This thread went wild this year. Froome's thread was surpassed. GOAT is clearly dominating cycling, no one is close to his level and popularity.
FW always had a better startlist than Emilia. It is a great WT race and one of the biggest feat in cycling is winning the Ardennes treble.
Best one day racer in the world: 7 monuments + WC. He surpassed MVP, next year I can see him catching Kelly
But you can't ever say Emilia deserves WT status more than FW. FW is a important race for punchers and where they test who is the best in the world. Emilia just really seems a prep race when top guns don't care that much about winning.
Emilia is a good race but Fleche is definitely the more prestigious one as it is part of that Ardennes treble.
Italian fall races has always been clustered together with Lombardia being the main attraction.
Fleché still has more stand-alone value despite being part of a "treble" and LBL being the main race.
AGR was at one point seen as close to being a monument, despite SB surpassing that these days and closer to holding that title now.
I don't know why we don't bring the worldcup again. I loved that jersey and seeing Bettini winning so many times just made this cup worth it. This cup really recognized the best classicomano of the season.

Sivakov the only rider that has believable power numbers for a pro. The other pros and their power for that flat section seems way under what they actually produce (how does that work?).
They were riding together in a group and they probably weren‘t pushing the limits on cooperation while Sivakov rode alone.
Draft. Sivakov was going solo, the others were in a group. Totally believeable to me.
Rick: I agree about Emilia deserving WT status. Would make a lot of sense to me, but as of right now and without its WT status, I think the Canadian races edge it out
Yeah, that's probably true. I guess they made time back on the descent and the last uphill section.
I think he was cruising in Sormano just to nuke that flat section. If he really wanted, he could take almost 2 minutes on Remco in Sormano.
