Good for Pogacar, but its got to the point it isn't about who has the best legs any more. Now its who has got the most money. This trend could destroy masters racing.

I hope you are right but this trend has been going on for a while now.
Getting back to Pog's new Colnago, I don't find it ugly. Confronting would be a better word.
But aerodynamics don't care about aesthetics. Similar in Formula 1, the cars are quite ugly now due to aero development.

Pogacar is still not close to beat Remco or Ganna in a flat TT so I'm not bothered about this new bike. In road races, even if he gets 5/10 watts extra, it is the difference between a winning margin of 2 minutes to 2 and half minutes.

If anything he has had the worst bike for years compared to many, thats pretty common knowledge so if he/they level the playing fields to the best there I mean thats only fair. That being said its common to market it like this.
I weirdly enough dont find it ugly not that I care about that stuff but I dont, it just looks fast.

Colnago claimed they were sh** when modeling the v4rs i.e the new y1rs is 20 watts faster than it but is only 1 watt faster than the unmentioned current fastest bike which means pog was around a minute slower than what he should be on a race with 50km to go @50kph bonkers

More important than being faster, I just hope that the new bike handles well as one crash can ruin a season.
I think it's a big jump for everyone throughout the team to jump to new platform and riding positions are going to be really limited for lots of riders w handlebars set up. Think things are likely similar to Visma, use different bike for different circumstances, Cervelo cockpit is more versatile even if it's heavier or less aero ..
Sort of funny that most bikes are made by just a few companies and although Colnago tries to really sell Italian design elements, new bike is a complete copycat of bunch of established designs.. Heavy, heavy influence from Trek, Cervelo with BMC tossed in. I personally can't stand look of curves in Pinarello designs and new Colnago w downtube indentation gives a similar look.

If he shows a similar level next year compared to 2024, I think we can accurately say Pogacar was badly (or not optimally) coached before 2024.

Pros look at bikes as tools of the trade, where as I expect many of us develop an affinity for our bikes that goes beyond that.
That said, I'm honestly pretty disgusted with bike prices already. The idea of paying full price for Specialized is comical - everyone I know who rides a Spec gets some sort of bro deal, team discount, or whatever. I recently saw a Cervelo S5 "special" edition for like $7500 for the frameset. Just nuts.
But hey, for people in the masters' field who want to rock a $15,000 bike in the local crit, more power to them. If you can afford it, and it makes you happy, there are a lot worse ways to spend that $$.
PS. That Colnago's not as ugly in WC colors, but I guess that's what "lipstick on a pig" means.

I think the prices started getting out of hand around 2016. Back then a team spec bike ridden in the peloton was still relatively affordable. And technology like discs and aero frames introduced since then are part of but not all the problem.

But I can easily buy a new car for less than Pogacar’s new Colnago. Even the cheapest new cars are way more complex than a bicycle. But as I pointed out, we don’t need to compare to cars, just against prices for new top spec bikes a few years ago. I mentioned disc brakes and aero. But electronic shifting also added a lot in cost. Obviously a lot of easy money to be made in top end bicycles.
The industry was stung when it was revealed that Peter Sagan’s Specialized Venge weighed well over 8kg. To strip it back closer to the UCI limit cost a lot of R&D - frames, components and wheels. Steel bits replaced with titanium and carbon etc. It used to be easy to build a ~7kg bike. It’s still easy but a lot more expensive.

Car prices in the US are obscene. Lots of things to talk about there, but I don't want to derail the thread. Average new car price is now $47k. People drop like $80k on new trucks.
But Cookster's right too - you can buy a good used car for the price of one of these new aero race machines. How does a new Scott Addict cost $16,000? How?

I thinh he will unless he goes to Romandie. It's a big race and there's nothing much else to do during that time. I don't think he'll finish his spring on 6th of April.

Yeah but he needs a light program to target later in the season Tour-Vuelta-WC-GdL. This is a 3 month peak
I think if it's dry he'll enter Roubaix's startlist last minute
