Thoughts before I leave for work. Movistar not bad, not good, but not bad. They could have shed a lot more time than that. Valverde said at the end of the ride that the time loss was within what they expected. Very impressive ride by Lawson Craddock. With his injuries I was really worried about this stage for him. He not only survived but did well and took pulls. Not at all surprised that BMC beat Sky's time today, I actually thought BMC being ahead of Sky by around 5 seconds was very likely.

Poor Dan Martin

Given how bad this UAE Tour squad is, I would say it’s more a case of lucky Dan Martin to be only 45 seconds behind Froome and Porte and ahead of Quintana after the TTT. I assumed he’d be 2:30 to 3 mins down.

What a disgrace this squad is though. They have a mega budget yet they’ve managed to send a team with a GC man and a sprinter to the Tour which is incapable of offering meaningful support to either. What the hell did they do with the money?
