Wonder if the UCI president had a meeting with the mayor of Sarzeau at some point.

Interesting anecdote by Danish commentators. One of them was talking with Linus Gerdemann in 2011, and they talked about the Tour, where the Schlecks ended on the podium. Gerdemann apparently said, that Andy didn't lose because of the last time trial nor because of his shaky descending, but because of Fränk. At the first mountain stage (didn't specify which, Luz Ardiden perhaps?) Andy said under way, that he felt that he had "the best legs he has ever had in his life", but Fränk said "no you don't" and that he better stay put , and so Andy held back, but according to Gerdemann, if he had ignored his brother, he would have destroyed everyone. They also talked about how Fränk was the more doubting and risk-averse of the two, which Bjarne Riis also said in an interview..

Slight correction. Fränk said that he himself did not have great legs, and therefore Andy should not attack.

The peloton *** around so much, the break actually has a definitely non-zero chance to get through now if they have anything left.
Maybe 10% or so?

They have no chance, if the peloton goes full on they can bring back 3 minutes in about 10km.

The breakaway's chances are very slim. Even more so looking at the final 4km.

The GPS gap is deceiving because it assumes the current pace, but the peloton can go 60 kmh+ full on whereas the break will go 45-50. So it's not really a 3 minute gap per se, but less.

I like long wide boulevard finishing straights. With quite a good headwind this is going to be a case of hiding as late as possible and a strong team will not be such a big factor

I'm [edit] saying the breakaway will survive for sure (or even probably), but I think the peloton miscalculated a bit.

Hope the break makes it! Awesome when an unknown rider adds a GT stage to his palmares due to the big guns sitting up all day.
