Evans was never in need of attacking was he?
In the first week he was in a good position, he raced to limit his losses in the Pyreenees and Alps as he knew the ITT would be to his advantage.
He was also the most consistent of the Top-contenders. He was strong on all the important stages and his super-performance at the Galibier and ITT is more then enough to be a deserved Tour-winner.

Chapeau Cadel!

At least some of the more recent TDF winners were prepared to lead from the front to get the gaps to win the race, but step forward Cadel Evans, only defining moment of this years race was attacking to try to bring down the time difference to Andy Schleck, not a single attack, classic wheel follower and half decent time trial-er.
Dave

You made a new account just to show you watched a different race than most of us? Evans was far more at the front than he should have been and if you beat Contador and Cancellara you are an above average ITT rider. So not sure what race you watched, but I guess you don't like Evans.

Mur de Bretagne, anybody?

Nobody has really highlighted his win on stage four yet - okay, he didn't set the hill alight, but he worked his nuts off to get the stage win. I have not been a big fan of his in the past but he rode intelligently, and aggressively when he needed to - especially the stages in the Alps. I am not going to begrudge him this moment of glory.

Andy is the LeBron James of Cycling. Took his talents to Leopard Trek, had a few monster dunks early and no showed in the Final.

A 3 week (21 stage) race.

Attack when needed, balance the effort, put yourself out of trouble, and mentally be ready. Everything that Cuddles demonstrated throughout the tour, and other winners in the past. Andy simply lacked it.

As for winning stages - they both won 1 stage

If only all moron's could be so accommodating, and announce themselves so blatantly.

"Dave" could only have been more helpful if he'd actually hacked my CP and added his own name to my Ignore List.

Good idea to learn a little about cycling before posting.

Welcome to the Forum Dave.

Do we really need another thread about Cadel? Do you think we could carry this discussion on in another thread...

Up to you guys. I am sure the forum will settle down after tomorrow... :)

Firstly, no, we dont need another Cadel Thread. I vote for merging them all into the official Cadel Evans thread.

Now onto this. Did you actually watch the Tour. I am one of the ones who frankly couldnt stand the Cadel of 2009 and prior, but he won me over a little with his world championship, and has won me over completely this tour.

I guess you didnt see Cadels attack in the first week when he put a handful of seconds into the schlecks and nearly took yellow. I guess you didnt see his attacks in the Pyranees. I guess you didnt see him driving on after Andy Schleck while all of the other big contenders refused to help him but he kept on going. And I guess you didnt see him attack the time trial course today and end up being the only one who even came close to Tony Martin.

I guess you are a Leopard Fan.

As much as I realize that to most of the idiots posting right cycling only happens in July it should be said that Cadel did a great job of attack and sprinting for time bonafications last year in a little race that they hold down in Italy.

Oh, there is no way that Evans can still be called the man that never attacks. If he rode conservatively in this Tour it's because he didn't need to attack rather than that he didn't want to attack.

Besides, his ride on Galibier may not have been an 'attack', but it is hard to begrudge anybody that does that a win.

God if see one more stupid post like this...learn how a grand tour works, why would someone that can take 3 + minutes out in 40K even spend energy attacking in the mountains. Let the moutain goats that cant TT, do all the work, limit your losses, and blast them away in the TT...

or...If you can't TT fly away on the mountains and build up such a large margin that you can lose 3 mins in a 40K TT, and still pull on the Yellow in Paris.

We see which formula worked this year....maybe next year it will a different story.

A great Tour, I enjoyed every stage.

I think the 2005 part is actually in reference to the last time he watched the Tour. (He of course followed it on Twitter in 2009 and '10.)

Ding! Ding! Ding!

We have a winner!

I don't like Cadel one bit, but he won this Tour fair and square. He was the best ultimately, inspite of there only being one ITT. He crushed the other favs after 3 hard weeks in the TT. He controlled the competition and took his responsability when needed (Galibier). Because he was always in the front (stage and GC), it was up to the others to attack, not up to him.
