This weeks Cycling Weekly (UK) hints at a pro tour team being so hacked off at their sponsors rubbish bikes they simply bought a load from another brand and repainted them! Who was it?

Could be wrong. Someone who can recognize subtitles in the geometry could tell.
Christian said:Andy had a custom-painted one since he had a commercial deal with Specialized ... Cancellara had the painted-over one and Andy the crappy original?
nowhereman said:Just wondering?! What kind of thread is this? It's existense is based on a "hint"? And then nobody has any real answer??? What ABSOLUTE RUBBISH. Chat amongst yourselves girls, I'd suggest getting a life, but then you might get all huffy, and inappropriately offended.![]()

Except for Andy Hampsten's. His was a re-branded Land Shark.mr. tibbs said:That's it! It was 7-11's Huffy frames, which were actually re-branded Serottas.
Thanks for contributing that "hint"! XD
redtreviso said:Many 80s Treks were not Treks..Huffy wins the prize though..No Huffy was EVER a huffy. BTW Hampsten's Giro Huffy was not a Serotta...it was a Land Shark.

If they needed to respray, then you're talking about problems with frames rather than whole bikes.

I'm with you! My name was on Contador's down tube. the pics were posted on flickr. And I agree on your thoughts on Specialized, especially since 3 teams seem to be happy to be riding on those bikes for next season: Saxo Bank, Astana, and HTC. That doesn't seem to "hint" at them being a bunch of shoddy bikes.theswordsman said:Actually, Schleck & Cancellara both had custom paint jobs. A lot of guys do. Speciaized had a contest for the Tour de France where people could enter to have their names on either Alberto's or Andy's bike that they would ride one stage of the Tour. This photo has a white frame with 250 names in black. Schlecklet rode it into the jersey, and brought it back for another stage as well. My name was on Contador's. He waited until a nothing sprint stage to ride his, and changed bikes halfway through the stage due to some "mechanical."
I don't know if the CW "hint" has any basis in fact, but I really doubt it's Specialized. A lot of people who should know said that Schlecklets chain jumped because he made a shifting error on a steep climb. Specialized works hard to design the best bikes they can, and used a lot of feedback from the Saxo riders to do so.

El Pistolero said:Contador had one as well. Both him and Schleck changed bikes(the special painted ones with all the names on it) during the race because something was wrong with it.
icebreaker said:It's not that long ago that pros had custom bikes built for them by the builder of their choice, then painted to look like a team bike.
Now they have a "custom" paint job on the same stock frame out of a mold and that bike is referred to as a "custom".
Weird the way the game is changing.
flicker said:Most pros ride whatever they are given and naturally they will telll you it is the best bike they have ever ridden. An aquaintence had Rolf Aldags spare tmobile alluminum pinarello, he told me it was an extremely harsh riding bike.

You know what I said is right on the money. Your Snarky remark deserves a reality check, It wasn't between you and I, so you should just mind your business, or maybe you need the valium, sweetheart. This thread is just one big masturbation anyway because no one really knows the answer to the threads question. In fact, with that in mind, maybe you could use some vaseline. Check it out.
