Their national coach has criticized the attitude of his riders, but has he admitted his tactical approach, which boiled down to "dunno, pace the peloton I guess - it's not like I can conceive of any other way to race", was stupid?

I actually feel cheated by Italy, they have falsely tricked me into believing it is a sunny warm country, but from what I have seen on TV it allways rains there.

There is no need to market a World Champion when you already have tour winners on your team. No one of the ones that really had a chance was motivated or wanted to win it. They rode with their wallet, not their heart.

I just want to say that all the people saying that Wiggins should have a go at Roubaix are fools. And thats putting it nicely. Wiggins and Froome are soft. I may go as far as acknowledging them as good riders but unless something huge changes they definitely don't have my respect. No grit. No heart. Nothing really. Just numbers. April in northern europe would eat both of them alive. They should stick to their ideal weather sleeping on volcanos.

Why were they wearing short sleeve shirts with no coats??

That's a fair point actually. As Ellingworth said, they underestimated how hard it was going to be. Tried to go all macho by riding at the front without wearing adequate clothing for the conditions and ended up looking like idiots.

My thoughts exactly.

As they say in cycling "you're only as good as your last result" so Sir Brailsford really needs to win the Tour of Beijing to save his job!!

as for team GB , they don't have to many riders to pick from, and most of them (Sky's) should be in the off season doing sponsor promotions (like Froome is doing last 2 days after worlds)

There is a reason that last 14 years or so no TdF winners took part in worlds. Only last year Sky and Wiggins thought is normal to show up.

I remember the days when no-one cared....

Seriously, what was anyone expecting??

Yes, just seems like the good old days to me, when we were **** and the roads werent full of fat *******s in sky jerseys doing 10mph

mind you we were inconspicuously **** then with very few riders qualified, rather than failing en masse

Cav making a pointless show of riding on the front has zero impact on the main part of the race. It's just a bit of PR for Cav. Tactics have nothing to do with this. They just didn't have the motivation/legs.

What is that reason?

Armstrong: didn't care about races other than the Tour
Landis: banned/Pereiro: not really a 1-day racer
Contador: 2007-9 not attempted 1-day racing, 2010 under duress
Sastre: not a 1-day racer
Evans: might have done it had the course not been chronically unsuited to him

I doubt it was Cav. If it had been just Cav, the rest of the team wouldn't have been in front of the peloton too.

Clearly team orders.

And that's why they all couldn't give a **** when they reached the circuit?

Chris Froome may have intended to make a serious challenge, but it's pretty clear most of his teammates didn't give a fig for this race and were rolling out looking for the moment to step off.

They didn't make it anywhere near 275km.

If cycling in the rain is their weakness, I would suggest maybe track racing would be more suited to their talents.

Maybe that's why Britain is so good on the track. Fear of rain. Because it doesn't rain much in Brit....oh wait.

:)

When was the last time a yank won the World Championships? Been a while hasn't it? Someone called Lance Armstrong in 1993, I think.
How did Chris Horner get on?

:)

Some of the other riders also didnot have teammates left. Rui Costa, Simon Clarke etc. though finished. Froome did not have the legs with or without teammates.

Froome is never gonna be a classics rider. He's good at big mountains and ITTs, which is what u need to win le tour. Doesn't have the skills, experience or explosive power to do well in classics.

Lombardia might be within his remit as a climber though, though he'd need to finish solo obviously, and for that he'd need to hold form all the way to it. Also, Peña Cabarga = 5,6km @ 9,4% so Milano-Torino is plausible - Contador's not exactly known for his explosive power in one-day races either. Basilica di Supergà = 4,9km @ 9,4%... I'd say the Giro dell'Emilia might be within his reach too, but then somebody would post him zig-zagging on San Luca in 2009 and an argument would break out.

Yup, in fairness he pretty much admits this himself. It's not like he was taking an opportunity away from someone else by leading at the worlds so no harm done.
