So, Storm got moved down to conti level (again), this time the new Ineos academy team. This means that his initial 3-year-contract he signed ahead of last year is essentially void.
It also means that the WT team now have 2 more spots available...

I mean obviously it's not actually "void", he still got paid, basically for rehabilitating 2 years.

But yeah it's been known Storm wasn't actually going to be in the WT team, he just isn't ready (even if we forget his medical problems, he should've never gone to Ineos, ridiculously stupid mistake, one that I still don't understand, and probably never will).

It's void in the sense that he never got to ride for the team.
Besides, surely he got paid by Kern-Haus this year.

Though, I do wonder what the situation would have looked like if they'd stuck to the original plan: ColoQuick last year, Ineos this year.
And of course, then ColoQuick wouldn't have signed Øxenberg to replace him, and then Øxenberg wouldn't have taken the Coll de Rate record, proving that he exists....

(Just to be clear, I'm not saying you need to have that record to prove your existence.)

More good news as Ineos form a partnership with the new British junior 'superteam', created by the merger of Tofauti, and Fensham Howes-Mas. The latter have seen Pidcock, Brennan, Watson, Poole, Pickering, Nerurkar and Donaldson progress to the WT.

Once the relationship with Trinity seemingly broke down, something like this and the development team were obvious steps forward a few years ago. God knows what the previous management were thinking/focussed on?

It just doesn't work that way anymore when teams naturally attract homegrown talents on to their teams. It's a competitive world out there.
Agreed, but it does massively increase your chances of not having to pay £7m to buy out a rider a few years later

Do we think Onley should go to the tour or try a Giro as team leade? He's only 23 and he isn't getting a podium this year anyway.

Exactly. I live in leeds and there are a few good youth teams around here that take their juniors racing in europe. I've known riders in visma, bahrain, picnic and lidl devo teams. Ok, ineos can't pick them all up but there's an awful lot of talent they're missing out on and the link in with fensham howes (or whatever they'll be called) will also help.

I’m still hoping CRod rides the Giro this year but they might be waiting to see how he performs in the early part of the season before deciding.

There’s less pressure leading Ineos at the Giro and they wouldn’t necessarily have to name him as outright leader with Bernal and Arensman included.

How's CRod condition after his TDF injury? Ineos coaching staff should now intensify endurance training for their GC men. Pogi's wattage over the hills and over the plains during his long range attacks could be Ineos template during build-up.

my flame really went away. when Froome was with Sky/Ineos I would cheer like mad for the team, JUST BECAUSE it was Froome's team. a crit win like Welsford got today would have me shouting and living the last laps with my eyes glued on that jersey and high heart rate. it's gone. I hoped for Pithie ahah.

“Oscar Onley shouldn’t have gone to INEOS.” So sayeth Brian Smith,
https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling...cycling-figure-questions-oscar-onley-transfer
... a desperate move ...because they’re under severe pressure to deliver in grand tours, especially at the Tour de France. If the figures I’ve seen published are true, it’s a huge amount of money to buy a rider out of their contract.”
That pressure, Smith believes, is the real story behind the move.

(I'd check out Sir Jim's buying sprees at his pet footie club Manchester United for a idea of Sir Jim's lack of long term planning)

in terms of football Sir Jim has spent about 500million I think on players since he "took them over" (technically I think hes still on a minority co-owner), Liverpool have spent that much this season...

and I dont think Smithy makes a convincing enough argument that Onley should have stayed at TeamPicnic as theyre struggling with money, and theres no guarantee theyll be around in 2027 for his home TdF start, Ineos at least look to be financially secure for a couple more seasons.

and sure theres pressure for results at Ineos, but I dont think that pressure means must win, not whilst Pog/Ving are around at least, and I kind of think thesedays you cant afford to grow comfortable in a team for a couple of years, you have to be out there doing it or not whichever the case maybe
