I think the Isle of Man is part of the British Isles, but not Great Britain.
(So, come to think of it, how did that wee Manxman come to ride for team GB?)

Despite the name Team GB comprises athletes from GB, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and UK Overseas Territories which do not have their own National Olympic Committee. Although, even if that were not the case he would probably still qualify through his mum as I understand that she is from Yorkshire.

Actually, when you look at it four of the GB road team in the Olympics weren't actually born in the UK (Wiggins in Belgium, Froome in Kenya, Millar in Malta and Cavendish in the Isle of Man). Not that I have any problem with that.

Brits like to watch Brits winning. When Brits are winning then there is interest and an audience, when Brits don't win and the sport is being won by a bunch of greasy foreigners with funny names then the audience won't turn up.

Pre-Armstrong cycling coverage was half and hour on channel four before the news and a 2 minute summary on GMTV at about 7.30am.

The BBC/Eurosport/Newspapers won't invest money in coverage where there is no anglophone interest/winner because they know there isn't the audience. If cycling were to go back to being Eurocentric then you can bet your life the media coverage will also dry up and the hardcore audience will be learning Flemish to understand the feeds for the classics.

To be fair lots of Brits pay lots of money to see their local football team lose.

Cofidis was years ago, before the Armstrong revelations revealed cycling to the greater public for what it is. Every cycling doping scandal prior to this was chickenfeed relatively. And Wiggins isn't "some guy" - he's the 2012 TDF winner. I just happen to think you're wrong about how seismic another TDF winner being shown to be a cheat would be. All depending of course on it coming out now as you say.

Cofidis was also TdF 2012.

As the Dopeology entry you linked to says, the team involved was Astana, not Cofidis. Di Gregorio was arrested for stuff he did while at Astana.
