Why has Cassani so much faith in Viviani? I'm not convinced.
If it's a rather normal sprint they should form a real train for Nizzolo and give Viviani the opportunity to do his own sprint, if he's able to fight for the right wheel, just my 2 cents.

Viviani is faster than Nizzolo, that's why. However i'd doubt that he's recovered from his effort at the Olympics, so may not be at the finish if it's raced hard, whereas Nizzolo should be.

It will be interessting to see the Italian tactics. If they wait for a mass sprint they will most likely end up without a medal even if they have some great lead out men. So I hope they will try to form a strong breakaway with Colbrelli, Trentin or Bennati in the final 30-40 kms. At least this should create a more exiting race.

Of the following, who do people believe is the best without a train? Cav, Greipel, Kittel, Degenkolb, Kristoff?

So there is a possibility the RR could be reduced to 150kms depending on weather conditions. Have previously posted that the RR could be a 'crap shoot' because of the weather conditions - Certain it will be a conservative race and anyone could win.

It sounds strange, but maybe a shorter route wouldn't even be that bad IF they just have less laps but keep the part in the desert. That would suddenly make crosswinds a huge factor again.

Edit: However they would probably just skip the part in the desert completely and the route would be even worse.

150 kms is the lenght of the desert part, i think they'll cut the laps in the curcuit.

That doesn't make any sense. With 150K of racing in the desert, the local tourist information can't show their beautiful images of Doha..and well that's for a part the reason we're in this place.

Cycling Weekly says they'd reduce the desert approach and they speculate that would mean having only the 106 km on the circuit.

The route is a ***, no cobbles, just in some parts wind can be dagerous...For the first time I wont see the Worlds.

I hope the best for Barbero anyway

I'm all for the EWP, but this recent development makes no sense to me. Did they just wake up one morning and realise that "Oh... ***! It gets kinda hot in Qatar!"? They've known about the location for years and only now they realise that it might be an issue. Why not simply... not have it a location where weather could be an issue in this way? Especially considering that the Worlds is basically the only race UCI gets to decide the location of every time.
Though now it seems the issue might be rain rather than heat...

It makes sense when you take into consideration the only thing the UCI did! Money.

Underestimate Cav at your own peril. He's done fine without a train more than once.
