Team Type 1 and Invites

Team Type 1, the newly Professional Continental American team has stated that they are seeking invitations to the Tour of California and the Giro d'Italia, with each of these races being their major goals for the season. This was reiterated in this article: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/bertogliati-targets-shorter-stage-races-with-team-type-1

Do you think they stand a chance of getting the invites to these races?
What is the potential of this team in general?

In my opinion, they will probably be invited to Cali just because they're an American team that has made the jump to pro-continental. As for the Giro, I think they're insane...

They have some pretty good domestic results but I don't think they have the guns for the Giro. Kelly,Jelly Belly are both good but I would see them as having the depth for a 3 week race

They will definitely get an invite for ToC, since most of the American Continental teams get invitations so definitely TT1 with their ProConti status and their new 2011 roster.

As for the Giro, yeah they're insane as you said, as insane as aiming for an invitation for the tour in 2012 as they once stated.
I mean we have 18 proteams + Geox-TMC, Diquigiovanni, Acqua e Sapone, Farnese Vini...

Yes, it's impossible for any pro conti team to get an invite to the GTs in the coming years unless they are the very top pro conti team with lots of success in a lot of races like Cervelo was and that still is no guarantee as Vacansoleil showed. I think the best a pro conti team can hope for is to get invites to WT races in their own country or to some of the one day races that sometimes take 25 teams and thus have 7 wild card spots.

The main focus for most pro conti teams should be to do well in *.1 and *.HC races and see anything in the WT as a bonus.

Geox, if the team survives, might have the same status as Cervelo the last 2 seasons, having guaranteed invitations to the 3 GTs. But they might face a tough competition even in the Giro and this will depend who, from the team would be willing to ride the Giro.

the giro anf ToC are run in the same period: i do not think that what they stated is real.

they have no chance being invited to the giro: 18 PT teams, androni and ISD already invited, there are three teams for two places: geox (menchow , sastre, sponsor....) colnago csf ( pozzovivo, very goodin last year giro, colnago...) acqua e sapone ( garzelli, very well in last year giro...)
i do not see any chances for teams different from the 3 aforementioned..

probably team type1 has a chance og being invited to other RCS races, if zomegnan keeps alive to project of giro start in washington..

+ DeRosa, Colnago-CSF... then there's the French teams who'll probably be ahead of them on the to-invite list.

The Giro is an honourable goal to go for (targeting one of the 'other' Grand Tours will certainly be appreciated by the organiser) but to get it will be unrealistic. Especially as they're asking for an invite to California, which is at the same time and would therefore stretch their roster to breaking point - like BMC last year, only TT1 haven't got anybody even close to the quality of an Evans to make the invite worthwhile. However, they could get themselves a trip to, say, Sanremo, Tirreno (probably not Tirreno actually), and do races like Coppi e Bartali and Settimana Lombarda, and garner some useful results there.

Yeah, but not sure about De Rosa Flaminia, but Colnago-CSF might have a chance with Pozzovivo and Modolo...

As for TT1, they should be targeting, as it has been said, one-day races with 25 team invitations.
As for the Giro, signing Bertogliati, Efimkin and Bodrogi doesn't guarantee an invitation.
