Tell us about your training week from Hell..

Inspired by my week last week...
Training for NZ ironman, March 2011 (so I am not a real cyclist, and hence a bit soft).
16k run last Monday, right hip gradually got sore. I have been building up slowly, so no bone problems etc - just chronic tightness.
Swam Tuesday night (like a stone).
Ignored leg pain, ran 9k Wed morning including 5x800 on the way to work. Ouch. Could barely walk Wed night.
Physio on Thurs (nearly killed me), rode Thurs night, noticed a bit of a chain wobble, thought to myself 'i must check that'.
Ran gently on Friday night on physio's advice - had to stop after 15 mins in agony.
Rode 60k Saturday morning, felt ok but still sore, and still noticed chain wobble. Forgot about it again when I got home
Plan was to ride 70 on Sunday morning, including watching the start of the Worlds. 20k into it, clunk, clunk, clunk... 3 links cracked on the chain.

Anyone else had a week that didn't go to plan?

I've got a friend from High school who is at Kona now. His wife and children, and the rest of us have been very good at keeping up with his training on Facebook.

I'm happy to report that yup, it's all going to plan. I do chair calisthenics while reading his training reports in front of the computer screen. Lifting my coffee mug repeatedly can be brutal.

I must confess; I'm a cycling enthusiast so my my workout isn't from cycling. But I'm a runner, and not a too bad one at that so...

Mon - 7 miles @ medium pace with drills/core after
Tues - Mile repeats. 6xA mile 60 seconds rest.
Wed - 8.5 miles with pylo after
Thurs - 7 miles with core/drills
Fri - 7 mile tempo ( 5:35 pace )
Sat - 9 miles (easy pace [recovering pace] )
Sun - 15 mile long run

At first i wondered why this was posted as a response to the OP....then I read closer what your week includes and got the point....even though I am not sure you do;)

Dude....if this is your average week....you are running some serious JUNK miles. Ok, you must be a pretty good runner to do seven miles at 5.35 as a tempo run, but if you actually had some structure....also maybe try plyo instead of pylo 'cos I think it's better for you:D

And you need to recover...at least once a week with that mileage

Ok....back on thread....any time the wind or rain kick up at present, my weekly plan is in danger!

Went to altitude last week of September. Bonked like nothing else for 4 days and couldn't recover couldnt sleep and chundered from altitude sickness. Got back to sea level and took out the fixie for some short fun and clicked out at about 20mph and cracked 2 ribs

I know I suck it

Went to Indonesia for a 2 week holiday with the family which also meant 2 weeks off the bike. Couldn't stand not riding so after a couple of days I went out and hired a local brand mountain bike, Polygon, it was all I could find. It was a heap of rusty rubbish but I was riding again. Well I got 1 ride in and then it poured rain for 5 days. I took the bike back and booked into a gym instead. Parked myself on a 1970's model gym bike for an hour. Did this for a couple of days but the lack of air conditioning was killing me. Gave this away too. Weather finally cleared up and I contemplated hiring the bike again and tackling the Denpasar traffic. Had trouble finding one. At around this time an aquaintance of my son died in a motor scooter accident in the same traffic. Decided to sit it out and wait till I got back to Australia.

I just work a lot, 6-7 days a week. So much that there is no way to actually quantify the number of hours I put in. Sometimes it invades my dreams during my nightly 4-6 hours of sleep. The result is that all training has been canceled for all weeks until December. I squeeze in a few 12 oz arm curls when possible though.

I also recommend carrying a small chain tool so a break won't end your ride.
