Rules said:11. Blatant lying, baiting, or teasing other members will not be tolerated.
12. Issuing claims of information or quotes without listing sources or links will result in warnings or infractions.
15. Posting off-topic in threads, or "hijacking" threads will result in warnings or infractions.
Caruut said:I'm pretty sure they can. In what way is Polish not guilty of violating these rules, either?
red_flanders said:No one is banned because of their posting style whether folks believe that or not. That is of course unless one's posting style involves frequently and insistently violating the rules. Plenty of leeway is given.
Several (not just one) people have been banned for that kind of behavior, and once a member is given a short ban, if the violations continue the bans will escalate.
There's no need to pile on here, in my view. Thank you.

Elagabalus said:It isn't that he is banned, but, rather the arbitrary way in which the punishments are meted out. I view Polish as mildly irritating comic relief and certainly no way near as irritating as some of the other poster/fanboys. 3 months is a bit excessive IMO-again YMMV.
Oh, and Red, two dissenters among the cognoscenti is hardly piling it on.

The echo chamber is nearly completely sealed due to your hard work!
Elagabalus said:I was going to say something like "well ... I hope you guys don't go deaf inside the echo chamber you created" but you beat me to it.
But, hey, look on the bright side. Now we can all look forward to Dr.M, MI, Ben, Py and Rhubarb not limiting themselves to just 5 or 6 paragraphs per post but they, now, can properly stretch their wings to 9 or 10 paragraphs per post!

As for Polish, while some action was required I think the 3 month ban is a rather long and strange stretch. I think a month is far more appropriate, and if someone returns to their old ways a further month.
A three month ban only encourages people to setup sock-puppets and use them to deliberately troll.
Apologies for so few paragraphs, I am going to ask for some credit to use them in a different thread.
ChrisE said:No, it is not completely sealed. Fortunately some mods see the value in my contribution in the clinic, and I will carry on representing the poor, weak, and outcasts of CN forum!
Yes, 3 months is too long but hopefully he gets therapy during that time to change his POV. Further bans are warranted if he doesn't get in line with the prevailing opinion in here about LA. We can't have people with different opinions fouling up the conversation flow.
As to sockpuppets, my theory is that it is more fun to have a sockpuppet when you are not banned. Replying to one's posts to ratchet up the screeching is pretty entertaining, I would imagine. I don't have a link verifying how a sockpuppet user may feel, so I am sure you will dismiss this opinion.
Dr. Maserati said:The highlighted pieces pretty much contradict each other and I certainly would not dismiss your opinion on sock-puppets, you have expertise in that area.
I'll try real hard.ChrisE said:Really? Concentrate and try again.
Ok.ChrisE said:One is about how the mods view me.
I never mentioned his "opinion" - thats seems like an invention on your part.ChrisE said:The other is about how you etal feel about polish's opinion, and whether it should be banned.
ChrisE said:My apoligies; perhaps I should post in clearly defined bullets in the future.

His trolling got him banned, not his opinion - and as I am not a mod I cannot ban people so your point was dumb.
