It looks like La Florecita copied most of The Hitch's team. They have 24 picks in common, including non-obvious picks like Stybar. What (not) a surprise. :p

Another observation: Zam's team is 100% Italian, but doesn't include Finetto

I didnt "copy" hitch's team although I must admit that hitch helped me a bit as did hugo, pisti, barrus and search and pisti told us that styby would score 300% :D on velorooms we just discussed certain picks in the chatbox.

I forgot about Finetto   sorry zam

Eric,
I like your team. No Greipel or any other expensive rider this year, and you have only one rider over 436 points! Thats a great strategy! Unless Gilbert, Spartacus or Cav have amazing seasons you have a great chance at least for top 10!

Good luck!

If anyone is willing to compile all riders & players names into one excel sheet, I will put the game and all the stats online again.

In must be in this format:

Column | Column
Rider Name | Player Name

The names must be correctly spelled and matched with CQ Ranking website!

Let me know as I will be going on vacation Wednesday so we can have it done before the season starts.

I have no unique picks this year. That might be a good thing. Boaro picked just two times though. Last year he was one of my unique picks and he scored almost 500% :) He was rather expensive this year so he's a bit of a fangirl pick

I decided to come up with a list of my favorites for the title this year. Basically, I skimmed all teams and found the ones I think would do the best. My plan was to find 5, but in the end I couldn’t choose between these 11.

Here’s a list of the 10 most popular riders on these teams:

Gilbert: 11
Schleck: 11
Bobridge: 11
Hushovd: 11
Thomas: 11
Kennaugh: 10
Matthews: 10
Dombrowski: 9
Löfkvist: 9
Taaramäe: 9

The teams:

AAC1983:
AAC1983 has 9 of the 10 most popular riders, omitting Löfkvist. There are a few rare youngsters who will be interesting to follow, most notably McCarthy, Vanbilsen, Arndt and Schnaidt. Besides these there aren’t many big gambles. AAC1983 will have to rely on Evans and Kittel and hope that Slagter, Stannard, Vanmarcke and Meyer score a lot of points.

Armchair cyclist:
Armchair cyclist has 9 of the 10 most popular riders, omitting Dombrowski. Armchair cyclist will have to rely on points from Evans and Gesink while hoping that Guardini, Rojas, Lutsenko, Oss and Gadret have good seasons. Interesting names to follow include Anacona, Aru, Ruijgh, Berhane and Cattaneo.

Housoe:
Who is this mysterious Housoe? One thing’s for sure, he or she has got a very strong team. There’s no Matthews, no Kennaugh and no Dombrowski but other popular picks like Pinot, Breschel, Vanmarcke, Gadret and Roux. Housoe only has one really expensive rider and puts his faith in Farrar, Guardini, Langeveld, Meyer, Majka and Rujano while hoping riders like Felline and Kruijswijk have good season.

ingsve:
Any former champion should be mentioned here and ingsve’s got a very strong team again this year but also some interesting and even controversial choices. ingsve doesn’t have faith in Taaramäe, and instead he gambles on Fuglsang – probably the most controversial pick among these 11 teams. ingsve also has faith in Cancellara and hopes that his sprinter trifecta of Haussler, Rojas and Farrar will earn him a lot of points. Interestingly, ingsve is the only one of the 11 teams that have picked Reimer even though he mentioned him as an important pick.

Kvinto:
Kvinto has already been mentioned as one of the favorites and I agree. Kvinto has got all of the 10 most popular riders in his team which looks very balanced. He has put faith in Pozzato, Rojas, Feillu and Meyer while including rare names like Hardy, Sergent, Delaplace, Geniez and Kocjan. Will these obscurities pay off for Kvinto?

mc_mountain:
Another very strong team and definitely one of the pregame favorites considering his good results in the previous editions. mc_mountain has 9 of the 10 most popular picks only omitting Löfkvist. He’s hoping that Cancellara and Evans have good seasons while gambling on Gallopin and other rare picks like Eisel and Wellens. Millar could prove to be a very good pick.

Netserk:
Like Kvinto, Netserk has got all of the 10 most popular riders and overall a very interesting team. Offredo, Rebellin, Garzelli and Dekker, a notorious foursome, will have to have good seasons for Netserk to be competitive, but they are quite rare which could work in his favor. He’s also relying on Gesink, Pozzato, Anton and Vanmarcke to have good season. Arroyo could be a very good pick.

shalgo:
shalgo really doesn’t have many picks that aren’t popular which also shows in the fact that he also has all of the 10 most popular riders. He’s relying on Evans, Pozzato, Rojas and Breschel to score a lot of points while his only real gamble is on the youngster Groenewegen. Does shalgo know something we don’t?

skidmark:
What has the reigning champion come up with? A very strong team that includes 9 of the 10 most popular picks is the answer. Only Taaramäe isn’t included in skidmarks team that relies on Farrar, Pozzato, Guardini and Rojas while hoping that Kelderman improves on last year’s score and that Rebellin has a good season.

squire:
squire also has all 10 of the most popular riders but he’s also got some interesting names to follow, including Rebellin and Duarte. He hopes that Cancellara has a good season along with Farrar, Pozzato and Anton while cheap guys like Dueñas, Manfredi and Herrada can give him an edge in the game.

The Hitch:
Last but certainly not least, The Hitch who rounds this little review off by picking all 10 of the most popular riders. It’s a very interesting team that hopes Cancellara is at his peak while Offredo, Stybar, Chaves and Ciolek score some points not many else has. Pozzato, Rojas and Breschel are also among The Hitch’s chosen while he also has high hopes for young Haller while other talents like Boswell and Colbrelli can come in handy.

Thanks, Hugo. Interesting analysis. So I guess that means Millar isn't one of the most popular picks?

I had Cavendish and EBH in the first year. The idea that to be a good pick you have to double your score is a fallacy - if Andy doubles his score will he be a good pick. If Bicing gets 3000 points out of Cav and Cancellara that should be a strong position - unfortunaltey I have my doubts about Menchov and a few of his other picks. Expensive riders who perform solidly (ie 200-500 point improvement) are a great platform. Especially when it means you make room for riders with the huge exponential room for return on investment.

Good point about making room for riders with a huge profit margin, but it's still a high-risk strategy with crashes in mind, especially if you already have Gilbert, and in your case Evans, as well. Teams like Kvinto and skidmark's could profit from that. You're right, though, it could def. work.

Well, there's a 70 percent overlap. That has to be a record with that many "good" picks this year and relatively few great ones. You have to admit that it looks that way, also because Hitch said something along the lines of wanting to help you secure a high placing. Which is the only reason why I checked.

Ferminal dropped an all too obvious hint about Finetto like a day before the deadline.

Stybar is an interesting pick, by the way. 300%, though? Hummm. I think that one could cost you. Probably better to bank on Rebellin for a 250% profit.

not that I expect anyone to count but I wonder how many teams have less than 7 of the popular riders Hugo named. I have 8 and the other two, Matthews particularly, came very close.

i think my teams improves on last years performance.

Personally, I only have 5. That's a deliberate decision, though.

I have 9 of those 10 most popular picks, only missing Matthews. The only relatively unpopular pick I have is Damiano Caruso, who I'm expecting to flourish given more opportunities.

Hitch wanted me to change my first team, the one with Alberto in it, indeed because he wants me to do well. He told me: show me your team so i can help you. So I sent my team and a new one and he replied that he thought it was a good team (the new one without Alberto). Later I lost confidence in two riders so I asked about it in the shoutbox and people responded, among them Hitch. You are allowed to think that I copied Hitch's team, all I can say is that I've never seen hitch's team and that hitch and others gave their opinion on riders I suggested.

Yea I just didnt bother to check.

I will blame pisti if Styby sucks :p

Why those riders Hugo? Nuyens, Cobo and Rojas are picked by more players than eg. Matthews and probably have the potential to score much bigger too.

edit: you actually beat me to it :) I'll have a play with some stats now to come up with the most popular.

Okay, I believe you on this.

As for the Finetto hint, I assumed it was an effort to disrupt some teams at the last moment, but I needed an additional 0 pointer anyway. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered, either. We all know Ospina will score bucket loads of points, anyway. :p

these stats are great, I probably can't cope with doing all the riders and teams, but I might be able to do say A-E if there are any others willing to chip in.

Not too sure about my team. I got the 7 most common picks and only 8 guys that are not in at least 20 other teams. My team depends on perfomances from Cancellara, Roelandts and Slagter.

@ CQ
Just sent you the xls. Hope it's ok.

Looking at last years I saw that the winners didn't have any very expensive picks. This made me shy away from Gilbert, Cancellara etc. but now I see these same former winners now do have these expensive picks
