Thinking about the 2014 season....

I think Zabriske, Fletcha and Pinotti are due big bounce back years.

On a quite different note, I'm sad to announce that this will be the last edition of the CQ Ranking Manager Game that I host. Because of job obligations I won't have the time to set it all up after New Year, but hopefully someone will take over.

A shame, really. Best pro cycling game on the web. Only downside is that there's no prize money involved...

I hope Armchair is up to the task. Have you contacted him?

No I haven't actually. But he would definitely do a very good job as would mc_mountain, so I kinda hope one of the two will take over.

Best of luck on your new job Hugo, and much thanks for all your work on the game. Shouldn't be too hard to find someone else to take over with so many people playing.

Ah, I forgot about mc_mountain. Yeah, I agree. Either one of them would be great.

On the plus side you can submit a competitive team now, instead of having to worry about foreknowledge. Not that the teams were great this year...

By the way, I just stumbled across this quote:

Yeah. Plenty of gems, though. Like the ones from Rujano believers. :)

Whoa, exciting battle!

Sorry to hear you won't be hosting anymore, Hugo. As a few have said, this game is popular and awesome, and I'm sure someone will have the time/ability to organize it all. Thanks so much for your hard work, and of course your great idea that got it started! I still remember that first day you announced it, it sounded really awesome and then all of a sudden 25 people had responded, and I thought I had missed out. It was an idea destined to catch on.

Hugo - (Boss). Thank you, for all the work you’ve put into this! Really appreciated it.

Hopefully the game will go on. It’s a great competition.

See you around Hugo. If indeed someone carries on the torch, I hope you at least will have the time to participate.

Thanks for running the game Hugo. Just how much of an inbox nightmare is it towards the end of December when everyone is trying to rush their teams in?

Thanks for all the kind responses. It's been a pleasure running the game even though I haven't always been that fast with the updates :D But I guess it's understandable when it's been most weeks for the last three years :)

I will definitely still be around, and I will also be able to help out if the new "host" needs some help with anything.

al_pacino: The last few days before the deadline are obviously the worst and on the busiest day it's not uncommon to recieve something like 25-30 PM's I guess.

skidmark: Yes, I remember that too. I never imagined the game would be that popular. And I didn't have the slightest idea how to use Excel. Originally my plan was to just manually update every picked rider's score from week to week. But then all of a sudden 20 teams were send in and I panicked because I realized how many different riders were chosen and how many I would have to update every week :D

à propos...maybe cqmanager or someone else can help out to automatize that for next year. Excel is okay, but setting up a website for the game again should not be too much work either.

Thank you Hugo! I do hope that someone can take over the game for next year. In case someone does, can I make a pitch for keeping the Excel spreadsheet? Now that Hugo has done the hard work setting it up, it is easy to update and in fact allows people to to do their own updates when the organizer is unable to put together the update immediately.

If armchair is tempted he would get my vote, if only as my inbox will take a battering as will be already doing the youth game. I would probably have time to do the donkey work to set up the teams in the spreadsheet, if he needs help with that.

One of the things I've found doing the youth game, it is sometimes difficult to make the updates (the text anyway) seem interesting (well to compete with Hugo's anyway) - so my suggestion is that once the spreadsheet is established some posters take a month each to do the updates. I can think of people like skidmark, teosheva, search, evansisthebest and shalgo who could provide good updates and there will be others too, adding a bit of their personality to the basic template Hugo has established. then if Hugo has time he could have the honour of doing the updates for the last month.

My GT game efforts are within my Excel capabilities as they are all on one page: my excel 'skills' are entirely down to trial and error. So while I would be happy to try to make sure the game does not disappear, I would need some expertise from others.

I can help with excel...
I think that the main "problem" is to deal with all the teams that will be send at the beginning of the year... once the excel file is prepared with all the teams, the effort requested during the year is really low...

that's a good idea ;)

Instead to use the inbox of the forum we can create a dedicated email account where all the teams can be send and, sharing the the password between 3 or 4 of us, it would be much easier to do the work even in parallel, instead to load all the work on just one of us.

Even though I'm by no means an Excel wizard, I will be happy to answer technical questions and even helping out a bit. I can also do some updates during the season.

The had work that needs to be done is creating the tabs with the different teams, creating the rankings tab and the links to each team.

On a different note, I think we will have a very interesting game next year - provided someone takes the game up. There are of course some more or less mandatory riders, but especially in the expensive department are there some hard and interesting choices to be made.

mmh, I am not so sure, I found about ~15 more or less mandatory riders in the price segment below ~150 points - that will open up opportunities for the higher priced riders of course but also take a bit of the diversity
