Update #39: The end is near...

As there was no update last week, this covers the last two. Even though, not many points were awarded the last two weeks, and most of those who were comes from Moreno Hofland and Jos Van Emden.

This week's top scorer is Dekker_tifosi with 382 points, as he is the only one with the combination of both Hofland and Van Emden. Jpettersen, hilltopfinisher and Andrichuk shares 2nd place, scoring 298 points - all from Hofland!

This week's top scorers:

1. Dekker_tifosi - 382
2. Jpettersen - 298
2. hilltopfinisher - 298
2. Andrichuk - 298
5. Lortnoc - 125

On the high jumpers list, Jpettersen and Dekker_tifosi swap positions, as Jpettersen moves up 17 places while Dekker_tifosi jumps 11.

This week's high jumpers:

1. Jpettersen +17
2. Dekker_tifosi +11
3. nck1000 +6
4. hilltopfinisher +5
4. Ambiturner93 +5

Only 2254 points were distributed between all our teams this week, so as you can imagine, not much has happened in the top 10. Nonetheless, one major change did occur. SteelyDan managed to overtake Geraint Too Fast for 1st place as he scores 84 points from Van Emden.

And as this is our second to last update and (as far as I can tell and please correct me if I'm wrong) no one challenging for the title has any riders in Tour of Taihu Lake, it seems as though SteelyDan has won this thing by a mere 20 points! However, look out for next week's final update for this year's edition of the CQ Ranking Manager Game!

Top 10:

I was out of the top 10 for just 14 points :(

How are things looking for next year? Is someone taking up the role of leading this thing after Hugo Koblet?

At least if someone takes on the role of gathering everyones team and updating the spreadsheet again for next year then we could perhaps all cooperate with doing the updates every week.

If it comes to it I think I can take on the inputting the teams and creating the initial spreadsheet. I might want to delegate a couple of things maybe such as working out points for returning dopers and working out the popularity stats.

As i said before I wouldnt want to do the upates, and maybe a few people doing a month each of updates would be really good way to do it giving them a chance to establish their own take on the template of Hugo's updates, with Hugo having the honour of doing the last few updates.

I also propose a rule charge for 2014, based on what I did in the Youth game.

In terms of duration of the game, it would be as this year ie until the last x.1 race but teams can make submissions to extend the season should there still be a realistic possibility that a team might be able to score enough points to change position in say the top 15. This would have eliviated the situation Geraint Too Fast alludes to with Meintjes.

It can also work the other way (as it has in the Youth game) that if there is no prospect of the first place team being overhauled the winner can be declared prior to the end of the final x.1 race (or earlier even).

Do you know the all time rankings per chance mc?

my motivation to work them out isn't quite what it once was! I suspect skidmark is still the points leader, and you should have a pretty clear lead in the placings.

edit

3 year totals - skidmark 41090, you 39883, me 39525 (not sure if anyone high up this year is close enough to get close to these, probably not)
placings total - you 40, me 67, skidmark 72
skidmarks avg year = 13630 - teosheva who didnt do the first year has an avg of 14332
Maybe evansithebest can be more precise.

I have a spreadsheet where I keep track of those sort of things (I started it this year because my team sucked so much it was nice remember that it wasn't always the case).

The highest average is actually Nyssinator with 14720 points (as a point of comparison the average team score per year is 9863 in 2011, 13194 in 2012 and 10268 in 2013), teosheva is third and skidmark at 11th is unsurprisingly the best of those who did all three years.

Place ranking top 10 (all three editions required obviously (sometime in the future I might make an average place ranking to include those who miss a year or two but not right now))

I just put the top 10 so that my post isn't a mile long but I have the scores of everybody so if you are interested just let me know.

I am also ready to help with the game next year, though I doubt I'll have much time during the first months of the season. I can make the last updates of the year and help set up the spreadsheet at the beginning of the year but that's basically it.

thanks evansisthebest,

I think Skidmark and Hitch (and indeed the rest of us in those lists) can be proud of their efforts.

Hugo Koblet's suggestion Ie until THE last HC race is more appealing to me. Your proposal could drag it out endlessly when It's more fun to focus on THE next game at this time of THE year. THE rules are known from THE start and are THE Same for everyone So i dont get what THE controversy is about?

Thanks Geraint too Fast. I had given up hope when Basso Didn't do Much in beijing and finetto continued to score points. So this was a surprise for me

Sorry about the formatting!

Update #40: The final update

Perhaps this update isn't that exiting, but nonetheless, here it is. The final update of the season.

A grand total of 94 points were earned this week - is that a record low? - with Dim scoring the majority of these, earning 75 points from Mancebo and Buts. Only Zam_Olyas with Mafredi and Kjellus with Diaz also scored points.

This week's top scorers:

1. Dim - 75
2. Zam_Olyas - 14
3. Kjellus - 4

Unsurprisingly, those 3 teams also consitute the high jumpers list, and unsurprisingly Dim also tops this list, moving up 4 places while Kjellus jumps 2 and Zam_Olyas a single place.

This week's high jumpers:

1. Dim +4
2. Kjellus +2
3. Zam_Olyas +1

As no points were awarded among other teams than those 3, the top 10 is similar to the one last week. Once again, a big congratulations to SteelyDan who takes the title this year, closely followed by Geraint Too Fast and will10. Only 20 points separate 1st from 2nd and 98 points separate 1st from 3rd.

Top 10:

1. (-) SteelyDan - 13094
2. (-) Geraint Too Fast - 13074
3. (-) will10 - 12986
4. (-) adamski101 - 12824
5. (-) chinaboy - 12133
6. (-) Skibby the bush kangaroo - 12032
7. (-) freddybobs - 11985
8. (-) The Amateur - 11941
9. (-) vladimir - 11920
10. (-) tomazo - 11873

Last, let's take a look at the bottom.

Only 3 teams didn't quite manage to surpass the magical 7500 points limit. However, Eric8-A did manage a profit of 28 points as he hadn't used all of his 7500 points buying power. Phoenix118 gets the little attractive honor of finishing last. However, remember that it's all about taking part, and I hope everyone - including those at the bottom of the leaderboard - have had a lot of fun participating in this game!

Bottom 10:

123. (-) Andrichuk - 8523
124. (-) Sylvester - 8456
125. (+1) Zam_Olyas - 8272
126. (-1) auto de fé - 8262
127. (-) Pentacycle - 8241
128. (-) Thibaut Pinot - 8041
129. (-) Kevin Rudd's Hairdryer - 7978
130. (-) Akubra - 7469
131. (-) Eric8-A - 6844
132. (-) Phoenix118 - 5724

Finally a big thanks to everyone who have participated, followed and kept this game alive! I hope to see you all again next year!

Hugo

I think I would support MCM's proposal, and take it a step farther. The game should finish with the final points of the year, but victory might be conceded before that date. Any points that Meintjes gains in Rwanda will add to his cost in 2014, why should they not add to his score this year?

Because the rules were clear to everyone. Why have rules if they don't mean anything? It's cool if the rules will be different next year, but I'd sure like to know about it in advance. Just a thought. ;)

Thanks Hugo!

About the next game I guess it will be more of a gamble than usual because there are so many high priced riders that could make a profit. Who to pick?

Firstly Congratulations. Secondly, I refer only to changing the rule going forward into next year, which was hopefully clear from my post. You are very much correct in saying the rules are what the rules are, but perhaps you can concede that a slight flaw in the rules has been revealed. Also don't think Geraint is suggesting that the game should wait for Meintjes - indeed he seems to hope Meintjes doesnt score any more points.

Thirdly as winner in 2013, would you be interested in doing a set of updates in 2014?

Pleased to finish in the top half (43rd). Thanks Hugo for a great game and displaying the commitment to running the game for the past three years.
IMO No need for change of the rules regarding the races selected for the game. It has to stop at some point, and the last 2.1 Race is a good criteria.

Unfortunately I'm very busy now, so won't be able to contribute, but hope some of the regulars can contribute to the smooth running of the game next year.

What seemed like a endless decline in the first half of the season ended in a 22nd place finish. Not too bad. :)

Congrats SteelyDan on the win! And thanks Hugo for all your work on the game.

Dropped quite far after being in the Top10 in April. Most depressing is that the team I submitted was the worst out of my 4 drafts. Next year I stop guessing scores and evaluate just by eyeballing the riders.

Thx at Hugo for organising the game and thx to everyone helping him.
