Probably not worth it yeah.

I see you got Porte and Contador too. I was hoping there wouldnt be anyone else with that combo. Guess that was wishful thinking.

Contador seemed to be too good value to neglect, I am not sure about Porte though, but if he has a good Giro he will probably be worth it.

I would have picked him if I could've remembered a single performance from last year which suggested he could get back to his old level.

Fair enough. My only reason to include him was that Frank is back so there is a tiny little small chance he can improve and double his points. My expectations are somewhere around 150-200 points from Andy this year.

Looking at teams posted so far I see a couple guys I might have liked to try to make room for. Like Monfort, EBH, Hoogerland, and a few others. I was considering taking both Contador and Quintana for a long time, but in the end ended up just picking Quintana (who I felt more sure would give me more points) to give myself more points for other guys.

And happy to see I have some guys that are as of yet unique picks, hope they stay unique. Last year didn't have any so wanted a few this year. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the team and getting this competition underway. Good luck to all! :)

I figured I'd aim for double on even my most expensive picks which meant quintana had to hit 3200 and be more dominant than Froome was this year. I couldn't see it happening. In the optimum team last year I don't think Froome would have made the cut despite being the highest points scorer.

Wait, the opening post mentions 12AM (CET) as the deadline. Isn't that approximately ten hours from now?

May sound confusing for sure but 10 hours from now will be 12PM. I guess the better way to describe the deadline would be January 5th at 23:59:59 or the american way 11:59:59PM on January 5th

Don't be silly, Quintana will exceed 3200 with ease. :p

Seriously though, with Quintana he was one of the expensive picks who I know without a doubt is on the rise and will definitely be achieving heights of bringing in 2000+ points in the future. He's too big of a talent not too IMO.

If he can show similar (or perhaps improved) results in the smaller stage races that he showed in 2013, combined with racing the Giro, and I'm hoping also the Vuelta, I think he could definitely get 2000 or over this year. That's what I'll be hoping for. Whatever he brings in though, even if less then 2000, it should be a nice big amount.

In my dreams he has a Nibali 2013 like season. Win a bunch of the prep races, then dominate the Giro, podium Vuelta, etc.

In this game you have to take risks so any super expensive rider is a risk. If he goes down in his first race, he could miss the season and you just burned 1634 points.

Also another way to look at it is: would he score more than EBH and Uran combined? Or Talansky and EBH?

I'm just trying to avoid risks, so I'm picking cheaper riders. Perhaps that's the reason I suck at this game

Pinot may be a unique pick! I was looking at him, he can climb but he cant descent and once you are scared of descending, you are screwed. It is in his head after some frightening accident in his junior years and thats why I went with Talansky as my "no so obvious GC pick".

One rider I wasnt sure about but picked him anyway was Mohoric. I dont have any expectations from him but I do like his style. He got class but riding with the big boys will be a whole new ball game for him.

I think he's safe for big points. 4-800 (on top of his cost), and being safe for those that may be better than any of a number of gambles going around. Maybe I was greedy with Gilbert in a contract year hoping he may find even his 2008/2009/2010 form he looks good, if he refinds 2011 I win :)

Looks like some people got Quintana. I didn't even consider him. But he should beat his 2013 score easily since he'll podium in the Giro :)

It's not really a greater risk, if you pick three riders to try and score the same number of points you're in trouble if one of them goes down too, you might need all three to perform to get the target whereas an expensive pick you only need the one. Some riders are bound to underperform due to misadventure or just being overestimated, gotta pick the ones you are most confident in regardless of their cost, of course there is heaps of luck involved too.

I guess it's a points of failure v redundancy argument. If you pick 33 riders all 200-300 you have more points of failure but have great redundancy. If you go expensive with a few picks and then fill the rest with cheapies then you have fewer crucial points of failure but no backup if one of those goes down. So risks either way.
