With regards to alterations:

1. This game is supposed to be for fun

2. I understand those that put all the effort into organising it not wanting to exclude or lessen the enjoyment of those that have made an honest mistake and agree wholeheartedly with this principle.

3. However the details of most popular riders shouldn't have been released until all changes had been PM'd. Perhaps this was the case anyway but i think in future this would be a good rule. Give teams that have an error 24 hours past the deadline to correct it after which time such data and/or the spreadsheet can be released.

3, yes is a sensible approach, but by the time these were posted (and i think broadly speaking changes were in before this), 20 or 30 teams had been released, not sure that can be dealt with effectively, when people are so keen to post them. popularity of rider is no guarantee of success either as demonstrated by the success of riders along way down the popularity rankings in 2013.

if my comments were too strong I apologise. perhaps if criticism was offered more constructively and with an appreciation of the work involved it would be easier to deal with.

I often find that it is much easier to be respectful of someone where they demonstrate respect themselves. but then that is just my opinion.

I had planned on spending several hours, probably days even, further improving the appearance of the spreadsheet and its ability to produce updates. It will be difficult to motivate myself for that now.

Of course this is just fun and no money are involved.

As I said, it is only my opinion and I think that it does harm the game when people are allowed to make changes after the deadline when all the teams are posted.

After all thats how the double LuLu team realized he made a mistake. He posted his team and other player noticed the mistake. So he saw all the other teams and was allowed to remove the duplicated value (LuLu) add another rider instead? Sorry, even if that is only a game, that will leave a mark on it and I called it a BS. You should simply removed the duplicated value and he should have just 32 riders.

Same for all the others that were allowed to swap riders after we all posted our teams.

... I just realized that I also made a mistake, can I also swap some of my riders?

In response to your last question, sure, what mistake did you make and what rider do you want to swap? That seems like a fair solution, if it will reduce the tension going on here. Tell me right now which rider you want to swap with what other rider that has nothing to do with the Aussie nats or any news that has come down the pipeline in the last 3 days (ie. you can't drop Gavazzi if you have him in your team). I extend this offer to everyone playing. I'll spend the extra time processing, even if it means that the spreadsheet I was about to release with this post is delayed.

Anyways, my opinion on the whole thing is that it doesn't make much of a difference to make minor changes. The first year it was a big deal because 25 teams were submitted and shown before we realized we could have more. There were complaints, but in the end I think everyone will say it was a fair outcome, and a fun game. I will enjoy this game regardless, and I'm happy with the team I've selected because I've done the best I can, so I'm not going to make any changes. That's just my opinion, of course. But if I've ruffled feathers by not predicting things that might happen well enough or whatever, it's not hard for me to make the offer above if you already think I'm corrupting the game.

Regardless, this identifies a concern, namely that if people see other people's riders, they might be able to pick a better team. Since I can't change the past, I will try to think of a solution for the future. Here's one that I thought of today: Deadline for submitting teams is January x. There is a 24-hour period following that for unforeseen corrections, so in that time posting your team is entirely voluntary with the knowledge that anyone who might see that team. Then, the final deadline is up and teams can be revealed without worry that it will bring down the integrity of this game. That should address the concerns shown here. Feedback?

It is really frustrating to put in a ton of work and basically all my free time into a fun game only to have people tell you that they're 'disappointed' and what you're doing is 'BS'. I try to be understanding of the many spelling and formatting mistakes from people submitting teams despite the fact that they're spelled out clearly, and I've spent a ton of time fixing those. I would hope that I could at least get a little bit of leniency in return and license to make judgement calls without being harangued. But whatever, if you're concerned with fairness, Jancouver or anyone else, feel free to change a rider. I don't think it will really affect the game and if it does, at least it's a fair playing field.

What stats are missing? I thought the important ones were there. Your website has been a great resource, and I was kind of surprised not to hear from you during the process because I thought you might tell me what you need, since this is my first time doing it and I don't know. Let me know if there's anything I can do.

With regards to your other comment, mc has been an incredible help in putting together this game. But I took on the role of organizing it, so if you have a problem, you can talk to the 'sheriff' here.

Obviously, it was a joke only and I do not need to make any changes. Unlike some others, even if I would make a mistake, I would just live with it and for the fairness of the game I wouldn't be trying to change my team after other teams have been publicly posted.

You are running this game (this year) and you can make any rules and decisions you like.

Again, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to have or voice my opinion, but for the credibility of the game, I would think it would be better if those who made mistake were not allowed to make changes.

Really dont see a reason why anyone with team over limit or duplicated rider should be allowed to make changes and add/remove riders from their team AFTER the deadline.

It is my understanding that even now you are waiting for two teams to be adjusted because they were over the limit? If thats so, I do NOT agree with that but again, you are the BOSS so do as you please.

Do whatever you want, I do have a respect for you but I'm done with your partner mc_mountain, as I do not need any personal attacks from some drunken &^%&^% who just returned from a pub.

Okay, cool. I've just worked hard on this and am kind of on edge about being told in no uncertain or constructive terms that I've ruined the integrity of the game. I can understand how MC feels, for sure, but yeah, personal attacks can be taken, well, personally, so it makes sense if that's how you feel. Definitely feels kinda personal too when someone says you ruined the game you've been spending tons of time working on, so I kind of feel that way about you right now too. But hey, the season has ten months left so I'm just gonna forget about it.

Moving forward, I think what I suggested a few posts above about having a deadline for submissions followed by a 24-hour period for accidental changes is the best way I can think of for preserving both the integrity and sense of inclusion and fun of this game, so I'll be trying to implement that next year. Again, if anyone has ideas to add to that, that would be great.

I'm not waiting for any more changes, by the way, I gave 24 hours after I noticed, which was about 30 hours ago. The spreadsheet is ready in a few minutes once I tweak the popularity scores to reflect teams that I noticed were spelled wrong etc.

My 2 cents, I think your doing a perfectly fine job with the game Skidmark. Any changes made to a couple teams as long as they don't involve any recent news on riders or anything to do with Aussie nationals is very unlikely to affect the game that much. As long as it doesn't have anything to do with those things the changes to their teams shouldn't have a very large impact on the overall game or put them at a large advantage to other teams.

Remember this game goes all season long, and the cycling season is long. I'm 100% sure that one change made before we've even gotten into the races won't have had any effect on the overall game by the end of the year.

Also think it's important to note that it wasn't discovered a few teams were accidentally over budget until after the deadline. I personally don't have a problem with them making one change since this wasn't discovered until after the deadline.

for 2011 is that just from memory or did you have the list/post. i checked skibby's posts who did the list in 2012 but couldnt see a popularity list. as hitch seems to think ive been high on the list, but wasnt for 2012 or 2013 lists I found.

I think I got you (podium 2011) mixed up with Kvinto (podium 2012).

EvansIsTheBest appreciate the effort but I'm pretty sure I participated in 2012 and 2013... so two years I think you only counted 2013 (not that it matters because in 2012 my team was super crappy )
