You are all going to think I'm nuts but the way I see it looking at who is doing the Giro and all the big names opting for July, Basso is a good chance to podium even if he is working for Contador, plus he's back with Riis.

Why do you think so? I was very hesitant to include him as IMO he is on decline and Talansky or EBH can score more points. Its a flip coin between those three.

I went with Bryan Coquard over Talansky because Talansky is a nut-job and mentally unstable. I also thought Coquard will be more unique pick, at least I hope so. IMO you have to take some risk to make a difference in this game.

Thats why I also left out Fatty as I thought its another coin-flip between Fatty and Stybar and they can score equal points. Therefore again, Stybar should be less common pick and I like him better too :)

As per Fatty, any climber struggling with weight management will be a risky pick, especially somebody who is homesick and cant adapt to living abroad. But with my luck, Fatty will triple his points this year :(

Alright guys... here's the spreadsheet of all the teams.

It's pretty rudimentary thus far; I've deleted all the teams from last year not coming back on the rankings page and I've deleted their tabs, but I haven't fixed the weekly update etc tabs yet (ie. they will still have some names from last year and no new participants yet). I also have to do some shuffling around of tabs if I want to be neat and tidy and alphabetical, and I haven't done any popularity data. But the important stuff is there for right now, ie. all 152 (unofficial) teams. If for some reason I've missed you or your PM has gotten lost in the ether, alert me and I'll track it down - I've tried to be meticulous, but have processed over 100 teams in the last 36 hours so you never know what might slip through the cracks of fatigue.

In related news - 152 teams! Beating last year's 'biggest participation ever' by 2 teams! Right on. My quick and dirty count shows 40 new teams, so welcome folks.

Also, I would love a bit of help. If someone (or a few people) want to volunteer to do the grunt work of copy/pasting all the riders and who picked them onto the popularity tab, that would be great. And if someone wants to take that info and make a rider popularity summary like there was last year, that would be great too. I didn't have anything to do with that last year - mc_mountain was a huge help in that, so maybe if anyone is interested in putting that data together you can identify yourselves on this thread and then talk to each other and mc by PM or something, and can share updated work through dropbox or some other service like it. I'm going to bed right away and am in transit tomorrow, so if it's up to me alone, it probably won't happen for awhile. I'm sure there's enough skill on this forum to sort it out.

Thanks everyone who participated. This big reveal is in some ways the most fun part of the game. On that front, here's my team. I'm sure I'll pick it apart in great detail in the near future.

After doing quick count, I'm pretty happy with my top picks Sagan 35 picks and Styby with 22 picks. Also Bryan Coquard is fairly unique with 11 picks.

That being said, I have just one unique pick (BARTA William) and couple of picks that are only one one other team. Also having good amount of picks that are featured on less than 10% of teams so I'm not sure if thats a good sign or a bad sign :D

Edit: After looking at some other numbers, I think Froome has about the same popularity as Sagan 35 or so and Purito is on even more teams (40?) teams. Nairito on the other hand just about 22 so that may be a better, more unique pick but I still prefer to watch and cheer for Sagan :D

Cancellara is a unique pick! Bite me! Congrats to US Postal!
TDF winner Nibali also unique pick,
Contador with 2 picks (LaFlorecita obviously is one of them)
DEGENKOLB unique pick
DUMOULIN Tom unique pick
COSTA Rui with 2 picks

Valverde, KRISTOFF, KWIATKOWSKI, GERRANS, GILBERT, DEMARE, VAN AVERMAET, VAN GARDEREN, TERPSTRA Niki, MARTIN Tony with no picks!

Be honest, if you knew, those above would be an unique pick, would you take any of them?

Hopefully there's a few of unique picks in there. I thought Urtasun might be one of them, but already I see EvansIsTheBest has him as well.:p

Only you, me and Leadbelly have Dani Diaz. Here's to San Luis ;)

I think we will see a very changeable top 10 through the year as there were so many potentially good high-value picks that will be bringing in big chunks of points at a time. I only ended up with Sagan but considered Froome, Rodriguez, Stybar, Kittel, Bouhanni....

Ended up with a couple of fanboy picks who I could find no better replacement for. Biggest risk for me was no Betancur. Looks to be on 80+ teams which I expected due to his popularity on this board. Could end up literally anywhere between 0 and 1600 points...time will tell.

Phinney and Gerrans already on my 2016 shortlist :)

Jose is unique :D There's a Giro win worth of points everyone misses out on...

Menut too, hopefully he has as good a season as DASSONVILLE.

Looks like I have more standard riders this time though (18 share with Hitch).

Not sure about coquard, like the guy a lot, but took Cav instead, as EUC was thrown out of WT and he seems to struggle a bit compared to his break out season. Hope he does well though even if not on my team

My team (which is, I was surprised to realize afterwards, rather heavy on Aussies). In my eyes, Kelderman is a must-have for this season, the kid has done a year of investing in himself with two GTs and bad luck which cost him a GC in both Paris-Nice and Catalunya. He should be a top-20 rider in CQ, if not top-10.

With the last minute omissions of Pozzato (generally dislike the guy) and Heiner Parra (not steady enough) for Yates and McLay this was my final team:

The Big-Potential Stars:

Rigoberto Uran, 938 – Probably the most versatile rider under 1000 points, has potential to make 2500.

Mark Cavendish, 642 – Barring serious injury the Manx missile is looking at another +1000 season.

Carlos Betancour, 616 – Major upside, if the newfound Weight Watcher fulfills his +1500 potential.

Andrew Talansky, 534 – Maybe a risky pick given his latest injuries, but his talent is indisputable.

Richie Porte, 415 – Little Richie needs to find his mojo again, but if so he’ll easily top 1000 points.

Robert Gesink, 274 – Big Rob is back and is the most obvious pick this season IMO besides Henao.

Sergio Henao, 92 – What a steal, the third or fourth best Colombian rider with +1000 potential.

The “Turn the frown upside-down” Guys:

Edvald Boasson-Hagen, 429 – A massive disappointment lately, but hopefully a new environment will do him good. Might be a risky pick, but has a very high point ceiling.

Heinrich Haussler, 237 – Has voiced a desire to return to the Haussler of 2009, but 500 points should be minimum.

Thomas De Gendt, 54 – Actually one of my last admissions, because I read that Lotto is naming him GC captain for Down Under, meaning they have faith in him. Hopefully the “happy De Gendt” shows up this year.

Moreno Moser, 87 – Without Sagan he’s got no excuse not to deliver. Let’s just forget 2014.

Matthew Goss, 66 – The little Aussie better start to deliver again. Those HTC days seems long ago.

Injury-free Year, Yes Please!:

Ian Stannard, 250 – Impressive force of a rider, really hoping he can get through a complete spring season.

JD Atapuma, 102 – With a recovered femur he should be ready for another Colombian adventure.

Luca Wackermann, 37 – Is he a Nikita Novikov-like lost talent? He claims he’s ready for a new start, let’s see.

U25 Talents:

Sam Bennett, 436 – Undisputed leader at Bora and with one more year in the bag.

Florian Senechal, 263 – Has quickly made himself the most interesting rider to follow at Cofidis (Not a hard job though)

Simon Yates, 207 - Supposed to be the twin with the easiest transition to pro racing, he was overshadowed by Adam last year, but might take the deck this season.

Nicola Ruffoni, 117 – Beat Cav, Viviani late last season, and hopefully he now found the winning formula

Sebastian Henao, 96 – Rather surprised that the younger Henao didn’t score more last year. He’s ready to go for the white jersey in the giro, meaning at least easy 200 points.

Matej Mohoric, 55 – There’s no doubting his talent, with a prep year he’s ready to rock the pro ranks.

Joe Dombrowski, 10 – Too cheap and too talented to pass up. Will get chances with Vaughters.

Young But Massively Talented Neos:

Dylan Teuns, 167 – This guy really impressed me as stagiaire, what will he do during a complete season?

Louis Vervaeke, 115 – Another young rider who impressed me last year, especially in Avenir.

Caleb Ewan, 95 – Ready to enter the big boys league with a B-A-N-G. Will probably be amongst the five most picked riders this year.

Fredrik Ludvigsson, 40 – Didn’t do much last year, but I have a good feeling about him based on 2013. It doesn’t hurt to see the progress his big brother is making.

The French Connection:

Pierre-Roger Latour, 71
Thomas Boudat, 61
Daniel McLay, 49

All three cheap promising Neo-pros taking part of a points-heavy French calendar. Promising fastman McLay and semi-sprinter Boudat are the most likely to benefit, as French climbers usually seem to take a season or two to adjust to pro racing. McLay wants to win quickly in the pro ranks, and I believe he will.

The Boring Picks:

Jürgen Van Den Broeck, 364 – Finally VDB2 will take a look at other races than the Tour, which ought to do him good pointwise. This is the third year in a row he’s on my CQ team – boooooring!

Oscar Gatto, 175 – I have absolutely no feelings whatsoever for Gatto, but as a leader at Androni he should return to his 400-range point score

Igor Anton, 149 - What’s left to say of the guy? Probably the most picked rider in CQ competition history. Will he disappoint me and his other backers once more?
