Right, it's just a game. Maybe there shouldn't be any rules or deadlines. I propose we re-submit our picks again, that way we will be all in the same situation as Panda. I'm game, are you?

seeing as skidmark is spending a lot of his spare time running this thing without getting anything for it, I say we should respect his desicions and stop *****ing about this.

Dear Jancouver,

This is a game, so please don't try to make it that big of a matter and just don't call people classless/respectless, since I'm pretty sure he just wants to join the game because he likes to play it. Also, stop trying to force the organisation in a certain direction. If you have any respect for the work they put into this, it really is their call to make.

+1.

Yes. Skidmark has decided to let Panda play. It is him who makes the final call.

Are you saying that I'm running this game as if it has no rules or deadlines? It sure sounds like it. Am I allowing someone to submit a team of 100 riders at 20000 points? Am I allowing someone to submit a team halfway through the season and give them points retrospectively? That would be something someone does if there were no rules to a game. What I summarized yesterday was the decision to make an exception to someone who submitted their team a bit late. I laid out a case as to why I thought this was reasonable, and why it would impact the game very little. I think Jancouver's point that there could be a silent majority who didn't submit a team is one I want to take seriously, and a good one, and I appreciate Handbrake mentioning his thoughts on it as someone who had to drop a rider because of the deadline. But hyperbolically suggesting that I'm running this game without rules is something I simply find insulting. I didn't spend like 60 hours on this game to be casually insulted by someone on an internet forum; I spent it on the game because I think it's a fun way to track the cycling season, and want to give other people the opportunity to enjoy that in the same way. There are over 150 teams who are participating in the game within the clearly defined rules, so I think it's going okay.

Anyway, this late team will carry an asterisk and be ineligible from winning this game 'officially', kind of in the same ways I've included the most popular teams in the tabs. At the same time, if there is anyone reading this that is part of that silent group of people who didn't submit a team because you thought it was too late, send 'em to me and I'll include you in a similar fashion. We can even call it the 'ghost bracket' or some cool name.

That's all I've gotta say about that, other than to say I thought making rules about a penalty for late entries would be a good compromise for future years, as it wouldn't exclude anyone necessarily, but it would put the incentive on you to get your team in time and offer a clear penalty so it won't seem grossly unfair if a late team is accepted. The only response I've received was vehemently opposed, so unless I hear some support, that's the end of that idea and we'll probably have this discussion again next year.

Well, I came on to talk about mid-level picks and their impact on the game. I guess I should have known I'd talk about this instead. This is the last word for me on this though; genuinely appreciate the feedback, and hope we can move on to start having fun in the game.

Skidmark,
I dont think he was trying to say that you are running the game without rules. You are doing a fine job and we all appreciate your work. Panda missed the deadline and he should take it as a man and stay out the game and from basic principal reasons he/she should be excluded.

You decided otherwise and while many will not voice their opinion, we all know it was a wrong decision but we do respect your decision regardless.

Thanks again for your work!

That's right, Skidmark, I was just being sarcastic. I think you didn't read my previous posts. Anyway, I do appreciate your hard work.

Glad you came out with a fair solution for Panda and all the other members that couldn't participate on time.

yeah it's his game so he can do whatever he wants as far as I'm concerned.

For instance, if he decided to kick jancouver out of the game for being a whiny *****, I would totally support that.

I was hoping that we will not degrade this thread to name calling. Well, I guess I was wrong. After all, every internet forum has a few individuals that are incapable of having an adult conversation and exchange opinions without name calling.

I doubt it is wise to actually respond to this, as Skidmark seems to be taking the bullet for my appearantly awful behavior.

For these reasons, I'll try and keep it short.

I made a mistake, I know that and I'll keep admitting it every step of the way if people feel someone should be punished. In fact, I never even checked the submission deadline, as I have never been late before so I never even gave thought that it could create such a backlash.
Main thing to remember from this paragraph: I made a mistake which was wholly my fault and I know it.

And if you think that it is 'classles' and being an entitled brat for me to state my opinion then so be it.

I do think I deserved a shot at defending my own case, am entitled to it even.

EDIT: I see a decision has been made, so I removed all parts I thought might spark further discussion. I do want to apologise to everyone who wants the rules to be 100% strict. I never meant to annoy you in this regard.

You may think it was a wrong decision, but I'm quite confident that not everyone shares your opinion regarding that. I certainly don't, so I think it'd be better if you only spoke for yourself next time.

Not sure who Jancouver means by "we all": he most certainly does not speak for me.

This is the second year in a row that he has attacked the willingness of Skidmark to allow a little leniency and discretion in dealing with deadline issues. Perhaps he will now realise that Skidmark, as well as showing enormous goodwill in organising the game, is willing to show goodwill and trust to participants who he is willing to believe might have made an innocent oversight. For as long as Skidmark is running the game, his word is final. If enough people consider his word unreasonable, the game will falter: I am delighted to observe that far from faltering, it continues to grow.

I just realised that noone picked Boonen..! I must say I had him in my first draft, but at some point I lost my faith in him. He is a big question mark, but so is Betancur whose price is similar but was picked by many. Some wasted opportunity there to have such a prominent unique pick.

On another note, two teams picked Brammeier, despite not knowing where he will ride, if anywhere at all! Someone fancy buying cat in a bag?

Boonen is probably too old and the competition both within his team and in general means it will be hard for him to win much.

If I were to take a wild gamble on a rare expensive pick I think I'd go with Aru or Dan Martin.

Also kind of regret not picking Van den Broeck, as he will probably get like 350 points by riding giro-vuelta plus whatever else he can scrape together over the year.

I think Boonen has a great chance of winning the WC RR, and P-R this year is very likely (RVV will go to Vanmarcke, Sagan or Cancellara probably). He's one rider i regret not picking as I think he can reach 1500, but in the end I deemed it to be too risky.

Other riders I currently regret not picking include Barguil- who I only noticed after I submitted my team- and Le Bon who is in the exact same boat.

All in all, I would have liked for some of my picks to be less common, because I had some interesting riders on my shortlist that I didn't use.

I have never considered Skidmark's word unreasonable and never said anything in that regard. Do I consider accepting late submissions wrong? Yes, I do. Decision was made and we can move on.

As per Panda, he is no value to this game and as you already know, by April, Panda (and most others) will be nowhere to be found and very few of us will be still around talking to each other.

Regarding of who I wanted to pick if I knew everyone teams I must say I'm pretty happy with my big 3(Sagan, Nairito and Purito) and I would still chose them. Quintana looks even better now after I saw the Vuelta stages . I think some of the stages suits him way better tha Valverde so he should have a good chance to win there too.

Some riders that I might've wanted to pick in my team after I checked the spreadsheet are Quintana and Henao JR. Other than that I'm pretty happy with my team.

Can't say for certain because the season hasn't started, but I think I'm pretty happy with the "bigger" name riders I picked. What I wish is that I had a better knowledge of the younger riders that have very little points...that's where I felt like I did poorly.

With all the commotion I have not been able to look at the most popular picks until now and seeing it now makes me wonder on whether I should have picked up Moreno Moser.
I just do not really trust the guy to score big anymore, at least not in 2015.

Who is this Lachlan Morton guy that so many people picked though?

Happy with Haussler in my team. I expect a lot from him this year, let's hope he is injury-free during the classics. A similar rider in my team is Oss, I think he is capable to win a (semi)classic, but he has to be a bit lucky.

Too bad my team isn't balanced at all, 10 zero-pointers is just too much. :(
