Unfortunate that Gaudu disappeared from the Wallonia startlist a few days before the race. Would have been a good race for him. Now i hope Ciccone gets to ride the Tour of Utah.
With Teuns winning the GC in Wallonia i've virtually lost the lead after only one day.the asian said:

Wait what? I was seventh last year after the TDF?!?! I don't remember doing that well last year at all!
I guess having two expensive rare picks which didn't go well last year (i.e. Nibali and Landa) made me feel like I was doing terrible, whereas this year having a few good rare picks, most notably Roglic, makes me feel more satisfied with basically the same results

Update #29: Overall and weekly leaders singing Teuns of happiness
The Tour is over, July is over, and we are into the final phase of the season. That means that the table is set for the endgame of the CQ Manager game, which is always a little more exciting in the late summer and fall. It's pretty easy to guess in advance of the year who is going to score big points in the spring classics and the Giro/Tour (although of course there are always surprises), but there are still lots of points up for grabs in the summer and fall, and the races often depends on who's in form, who has shifted their goals from earlier this year, and sometimes even just who shows up to a thinned-out start line.
At any rate, the first post-Tour week resulted in a fair amount of movement, and both the top weekly scoring and top overall scoring tables are very tight.

It was a close one this week, with del1962 taking it by 0.125% or so over Roubaix, 1 point difference with over 800 points, phew! Both had Kwiatkowski and Teuns as the big scorers, as well as decently scoring popular picks Gougeard (FINALLY scoring some points this year) and Landa. The difference was made in the little points, with each team having points from 16 riders. It's impossible to tell where the one-point difference was made, but let's highlight that del's pick, old man Stijn Devolder, got 45 points this week. I didn't think I'd be spotlighting him in any more CQ updates, so might as well take the opportunity when possible. Let's not let this battle overshadow the fact that third place Sneekes was tantalizingly close as well, with main points coming from the same popular bunch as the top two (Kwiatko, Teuns, Landa, Gougeard, Power, Viviani), but fewer minor points.

July is over, and it's no surprise that its biggest returns came from those teams who dominated the Tour updates. scrooll07 rode the combo of unique pick Froome and almost-unique pick Kittel to win the month, albeit not handily, with second place fauniera (largely getting points from Uran/Landa/Aru at the Tour) only 50 points back. Theirs was a classic 'you take the stage and I'll move up GC' breakaway move, with scrooll taking 3 weeks in a row, but fauniera being rewarded for consistency in those same weeks (two 2nd places and a 6th) culminating with the overall lead last week.

Things are darn tight at the top, and the lead switches hands again! the asian takes the lead by a mere 29 points over previous week's leader fauniera, while former leader GP Blanco holds solidly to 3rd. With 12 teams over 10000 points, it's all to play for heading into the Vuelta. Only one change in the top 10, as weekly winner del1962 rockets into the top 10 (and in fact top 5), while Maaaaaaarten falls just out.

The August hodgepodge of post-Tour, pre-Vuelta races are upon us, and as usual this time of year, to lead a week you have to draw on points from a number of different races. Considering that it's kind of a 'transition' week without a single huge race, the points were quite high.

Sprinkle in points from such rare picks as Pozzovivo (102 points, 15 teams), Giulio Ciccone (96 points from Utah, on 6 teams) and Mathieu van der Poel (80 points in Belgium, 9 teams) and you've got a winning combo. vroome.exe nabs second place without Teuns, but with Landa and Enric Mas in Burgos, Ciccone and Neilson Powless scoring over 90 in Utah, and a bunch of riders between 30-60 points on the week. Squire nets third place with over 900 points mostly from Teuns, Landa and Mas, with some solid contribution from Jaime Roson and Danny van Poppel.

This week is a similar diverse mix of 2.1 or higher stage races going all over the map from Portugal to the Benelux countries to Norway to the USA to the Czech Republic to France. It's likely again that it will take an interesting mix of riders to claim the week.

Slowly crawling up, 11th this week and 25th overall, highest place for me since the start of the season. I still can make it to top10 but I need a great Vuelta (and hopefully also Lombardy) by Nibali.

Not having internet access for 1.5 weeks did wonders for my team it seems. Never thought I find myself 4th, but I have to say I quite enjoy the Teuns-show this summer. I saw him scoring in the 350 - 500 point range with potential to score a bit more, but never expected this kind of form after the Tour.
Küng and Boom not losing ground at the Binck would be nice this weekend. Looking through the teams I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep the pace, though.

Update #31: Mouse Squeaks out Victory in the Days of August
I said to end last week's update that there was an interesting mix of races all over, and it would likely be someone with a rare assortment of riders that took the week. And then Dylan Teuns won ANOTHER race. But, in a twist, this week's winner didn't even have him.

The week goes to Roar Like A Mouse, who takes the week by a mere 6 points. This is mostly carried by 3 big-scoring riders: Jasper Stuyven (215 points, 14 teams), Thibaut Pinot (139 points, 4 teams), and... August Jensen!? The previously obscure Norwegian broke out this week, with 160 points and a stage win over the seemingly invincible Teuns. At a cost of 130, his return so far this season of 387 will make the 3 teams that have him quite happy indeed. It should be no surprise that the attacking vikings, a team made entirely of Scandinavians, would place highly in a week where the Arctic Race of Norway is on the list - a short list of riders chosen by fewer than 3 teams that scored for the attacking vikings this week included: Alexander Kristoff, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Micheal Valgren, Bjorn Tore Nilsen Hoem, Vegard Stake Laengen, August Jensen, Andreas Vengstad, Carl Fredrik Hagen, and Sindre Lunke. So yeah, a pretty rare mix of riders there. Geraint Too Fast rounds it out with a more traditional team including Teuns, Pinot and Boom.

Some maneuvering here as well, with Kazistuta leapfrogging the asian to move into a podium spot, and Blues in the bottle scoring 12 points to pull tighter to the top. Out of the top 5, Geraint Too Fast scores 30 points to move into 6th and is within a weekly win (45 points) of top spot as well. Three(!) teams that had scored zero points in the first 30 weeks scored this week, meaning 129 out of the 131 participating teams have scored at least a point since the start of the year.

Although there was no movement in the top 2 spots, the range of team scores was quite wide this week, and the asian improved their lead substantially over fauniera, outscoring them by 219 points on the week. Kazistuta parlays a good week to move within shouting distance of the podium; tom-jelte moves into the top 10 while Maaaaaaaarten falls out.

I said to end last week's update that there was an interesting mix of races all over, and it would likely be someone with a rare assortment of riders that took the week. And then Dylan Teuns won ANOTHER race. But, in a twist, this week's winner didn't even have him.

The week goes to Roar Like A Mouse, who takes the week by a mere 6 points. This is mostly carried by 3 big-scoring riders: Jasper Stuyven (215 points, 14 teams), Thibaut Pinot (139 points, 4 teams), and... August Jensen!? The previously obscure Norwegian broke out this week, with 160 points and a stage win over the seemingly invincible Teuns. At a cost of 130, his return so far this season of 387 will make the 3 teams that have him quite happy indeed. It should be no surprise that the attacking vikings, a team made entirely of Scandinavians, would place highly in a week where the Arctic Race of Norway is on the list - a short list of riders chosen by fewer than 3 teams that scored for the attacking vikings this week included: Alexander Kristoff, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Micheal Valgren, Bjorn Tore Nilsen Hoem, Vegard Stake Laengen, August Jensen, Andreas Vengstad, Carl Fredrik Hagen, and Sindre Lunke. So yeah, a pretty rare mix of riders there. Geraint Too Fast rounds it out with a more traditional team including Teuns, Pinot and Boom.

I was kind of thinking Teuns' performance would keep me up, but my team didn't give him the backup that other teams did.
I cannot afford things like Benoot's crash and time loss when he's in stellar shape if I want to catch the asian. It's gonna take some Teunsian performances from somebody to dislogde them from the top spot, I think. Maybe I can put my hopes in Roson and Mas for the Vuelta.
