Alaphilippe keeping Valverde at bay is absolutely huge. That's basically a 200 points swing to the teams with Valverde and no Alaphilippe.

Solid ride by Bardet too. Guardini, Nizzolo, Minali, Lopez are looking reasonably good in the two stage races. Finally a good week.

Well, in the couple of years I've done this, I have never looked forward to an update with quite the relish I do this one ... Valverde, Alaphilippe and Jungels cleaning up for me. If Valverde had bothered riding out the finish of LBL, it could have been even better.

Pretty happy this week. Alaphilippe, Gasparotto, Formolo, Bennett, Lopez, Ciccone, Oomen and Brambilla all earning >50 points. Some of those are pretty rare and/or hit pretty big as well, so I'm expecting to gain a lot of places this week.

Hopefully Izagirre can make me forget about his performance in the Ardennes next week in Romandie though :p

Good week for me, with great exibitions from kreuziger, bennet, lopez and formolo with also promising results from haig. Can´t wait for the giro. With Chavez, Lopez, Bennet, Formolo, maybe Soler with all real chances of making a really solid place in the GC I think I can climb up some positions in the overall rankings.

What a disaster the Ardennes are.

You could see that Valverde gave up as he didn't even bother to try to sprint. That's not normal for him. There's more to this story and it definitely doesn't bode well for the team going forward as he's definitely not happy about something.

There were so many popular picks making many points this week that I think most people will have the feeling to have had a good week. I hope that in my case it's not just a feeling but that I'm in the top ten of the week again. I had Lopez, Ciccone, Kreuziger, Alaphilippe, Brambilla, Formolo, Bonifazio who all made good points this week. That said, when I look at Maaaarten's team, I don't feel as confident about my team anymore.
The one big regret I have after this week is not picking Gasparotto, as he was one of the last riders I scratched from my team. Generally it seems like most of my late decisions have backfired as scratched the likes of Capiot, Brandao Silva and Gasparotto for guys like König, Intxausti and Haussler.

That should be 1.108 points for me this week, if i haven't overlooked something. Not bad, but i was hoping for a bit more. Valverde let me down today. Still, this should get me out of no man's land and maybe into top 20 again.

If I didn't make any calculating mistakes I have 1.062. I guess this will be a high scoring week :D

I have about 850 points and I'm now beginning to fear that I won't even make the top ten for the week.

Update: Lightbing does strike twice

With the Ardennes classics done, it's about to be Grand Tour season which brings its own kind of excitement. For the purpose of this game, it also means that a new set of riders will dominate the coming months giving the opportunity to a lot of teams to get back into the hunt for first place (and right now that means chasing down the hottest team in the field: LightBing).

This Week's Top Scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 Wallenquist 1117
2 fauniera 1113
3 Maaaaaaaarten 1101
4 bminchow 1041
5 Gigs_98 1038

Five teams clear the 1k mark in a non GT week which is crazy enough but imagine scoring 1113 points and coming in second because Albanese got 5 points for finishing 49th in the GC in Croatia (finishing 51th would have netted him 0 points). Not sure many will sympathize with fauniera's situation though as he got plenty of great performances out of their squad this week (Alaphilippe, Ciccone, Lopez, Formolo, Brambilla, Padun and Valverde). The top spot belongs to Wallenquist who relied on a bunch top-notch results in Liege (Alaphilippe, Kreuziger, Gasparotto, Formolo, Lopez) and stellar performances from Miguel Angel Lopez and Ruben Plaza on top of a smattering of smaller placings including the aforementioned heroic performance by Albanese. Maaaaaaaarten got nice scoring from rare picks George Bennett and Giulio Ciccone, bminchow got value out of Ben O'Connor and Roman Kreuziger and Gigs_98 combined Kreuziger and Ciccone with unique pick Serry to round out the top 5 (and in case you were wondering, yes they all Alaphilippe on their team).

This Week's High Movers

Rank Team Up/down
1 bminchow (+39)
2 fauniera (+32)
3 Maaaaaaaarten (+28)
4 Wallenquist (+21)
4 Jakob747 (+21)
4 HelgeBlendet (+21)
4 ansimi (+21)

The only one from the top 5 scorers that doesn't crack this list too is Gigs_98 and that's because he was too high to begin with. Jakob747 ranking soared at the same time as Michael Woods dropped the favorites in Liège-Bastogne-Liège (with a nice assist by Aru). HelgeBlendet hit on all cylinders to compensate for a lack of Alaphilippe (Kreuziger, Ciccone, Padun, Formolo, Bennett, Brambilla). Ansimi's three most expensive picks (Alaphilippe, Woods, Lopez) had pretty good weeks to power their team up 21 spots.

Green Jersey Competition

1 LightBing 150
2 Kryvo 108
3 Roubaix 102
4 fauniera 95
5 TheArt 94

LightBing score an extra 18 points for their 7th place on the week stretching out their lead while fauniera make an appearance in the top 5 on the back of their strong week.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Up/down Team
1 (+1) LightBing 5865
2 (+1) ruvu75 5735
3 (-2) Eyeballs Out 5703
4 (-) TheArt 5696
5 (-) trackstand 5628
6 (-) GP Blanco 5592
7 (+12) Gigs_98 5446
8 (+3) escartin 5421
9 (+7) MADRAZO 5344
10 (-3) Koronin 5335

Guess who? It's LightBing in the lead after yet another stellar week. Alaphilippe, Kreuziger, Lopez, Formolo, and Brambilla provide the bulk of the scoring while Gesink, Benoot, and Bonifazio are rare picks that got a decent number of points. Meanwhile, Eyeballs Out slide down to 3rd as Alaphilippe, Lopez, and Gasparotto aren't enough to keep up with LightBing. Gigs_98, 5th on the week is now up to 7th in the overall (+12 spots). Escartin (Alaphilippe, Lopez, Gasparotto, Brambilla, Oomen) and MADRAZO (Alaphilippe, Loez, Woods, Brambilla, and Formolo) also join the top 10. Giallo and scrooll07 do a good job of cushioning their fall out of the top 10 (-3 and -4 spots respectively) but Shawnm4747 slides all the way down to 22nd as no Alaphilippe on the team and no race day from their most expensive pick Sagan prove to be a bad combo (121st on the week).

Man having such a week feels great :D

I am doing really badly this year, and I was fairly confident. In hindsight, van Baarle, Reinchenbach and Atapuma were probably my worst picks. So much value to be had in riders I was considering at their level.

Anyway, Romandie is a make or break week for me. I have 11 riders starting, with a remarkable 44% of my budget taken up by these riders. I really need to get a couple on the podium and a few stage wins. I don't think I have many other riders in action this week, so it is just the 11 below.

IZAGIRRE INSAUSTI Ion
THOMAS Geraint
GAUDU David
ATAPUMA HURTADO Jhon Darwin
AMADOR BIKKAZAKOVA Andrey
ROSA Diego
GOUGEARD Alexis
KENNAUGH Peter
NAVARDAUSKAS Ramunas
KANGERT Tanel
DOMBROWSKI Joseph Lloyd

Even though knocked off the top, I think that was a good Ardennes week for my team with Alaphilippe finally getting some success over the Valverde juggernaut and Gaspa maintaining his status as the top classics rider on that team (which looked unlikely a couple of weeks ago when they have Nibali, Colbrelli, the Izaguirres and Pozzovivo). Also Riabushenko continues to look like good points waiting to happen while even Ravasi showed a bit of promise in Italy

We are well ahead of the pace compared to 2017.

The leader after the Ardennes last year (Googolplex) had 5523 points. Our current leader LightBing has 5865.
Last year's 10th place after the Ardennes (Kryvo) had 4905 points. Current 10th (Koronin) has 5335.

We might get further ahead after the Giro. Last year there weren't many significant Giro point scorers in the game. Landa was the only really popular scorer, while some teams had Pozzovivo or Gaviria. This year there's Lopez and Chaves who are almost ubiquitous and will likely create a very strong base of points for the top scoring teams in May. It's also not unthinkable to see some of the popular picks like Oomen, Kangert, Ciccone, Formolo, Betancur, Van Poppel or Brambilla score some decent points.

I feel like we say it every year, but this year might be one of the highest-scoring ones. :D
