For me Kwiatowski but also Tepstra's solo into the Velodrome at Paris-Roubaix and De Marchi's win at Vuelta where he had time to celebrate with his DS before the line and with the dedication to Alfredo Martini

Rogers win in the Giro.
Contador on Muro di Guardiagrele.
Tony Martin in stage 9 of the Tour.
Valverde in San Sebastian.
Rogers win in Bagneres in the Tour.
Nibali's win in Sheffield.
Contador's win in Pays Basque stage 1.
De Marchi winning stage 7 in the Vuelta.

Was the best solo wins of 2014 I can think of.
Of those I'd probably rate Contador's Tirreno stage win the highest.
In fact, I'd rate that single Guardiagrele-stage + Ronde Van Vlaanderen as the 2 best racedays of the season.

Contador's win in Tirreno by an absolute mile. A lot of solo wins are just down to other riders looking at each other or, in stage races, letting a rider who isn't a threat just go up the road. Contador's win was achieved without either of those advantages, he just blew the opposition apart.

Most of the ones already mentioned are better, in better races, but a small mention from me goes to Taylor Phinney riding away from Cannondale/Peloton on a descent at the Tour of California and solo-ing in.

Can't decided between this two:

Contador's fantastic solo ride on Muro di Guardiagrele and Kwiat win (not a true solo) on Strade Bianche (the whole set: landscape, course difficulty and race spectacularity, that final dagger on Sagan).

Honorable mentions to Boom, Valverde and Tony Martin.

Two nominations for Valverde's non solo win in Roma Maxima. If that was a solo win then I nominate Froome's win in the Dauphine.

Right, let's define 'solo' win.

Forgot about this one => "Phinney attacked on the descent from the San Marcos Pass climb to take a long-range solo victory in the 107-mile stage from Pismo Beach"

Contador in Guardiagrele, absolutely.
Panzer in the TdF stage deserves a mention.

I'm sure there are a few more that I can't remember atm.

Agreed. Alberto and Tony were the best imo.

How can Nibali's win in Sheffield qualify as a solo? Or Contador's in Pais Vasco?

Surely getting away a few km from the line is not a solo.
