The difference between sport and a casual pastime is that a sport requires courage. That's why road races are sport but time trials are not.
Re: tennis... There's no courage involved when you know the audience will just politely clap between bites of their finger sandwiches.

I'm not telling you what True Sport is, I'm telling you what I think Valid Sport is. And my opinion on that is idiosyncratic, yes. I don't see how that's an issue.

It's only a real sport if I've ever owned a video game in which it featured. I've had PCM, FIFA, Trackmania and RTL Biathlon 2009 among others, but I have never bought a tennis or a goat eating game.

That’s the problem you’re having. You don’t play the eating competition, you live it.

I don't think anyone is claiming that's a sport... or maybe you are...

The original definition of the word "sport" is "leisure" (from Old French word "despore"), and the earliest English definition (from the 14th century) is "anything humans find amusing or entertaining".

As such notions of sports only being something physical, are wrong.

Some languages have a separate word to describe physical sports, but there is no such word in English, so "sports" is all-encompassing.

Of course it's an issue.

It's like saying a green apple is not an apple because one defines an apple as 'a fruit that is red but not merely a tomato'.

It’s more like saying a tomato is not a fruit. In some circumstances, that’s meaningful.

What is breakfast? Anything you eat in the morning? Is there such a thing as proper breakfast? Is there anything that is not breakfast?

Is it a sport to watch films?

Wins of the so-called 'big 6' in 2023:

Pogacar: 14 (including monument and WT Stage race)
Vingegard: 12 (including 2 wt stage races)
Remco: 9 (including monument, Wt stage race and Gt stages)
Roglic: 9 (including Giro and 2 wt stage races)
Vander Poel: 4 (with 2 monuments)
WVA: 2

If Belgian pozzato doesn't win 3+tdf stages + world championships can we now call it a big 5??

So far, how would everyone rank their seasons, assuming you ended it today? I’d say:

Roglic
Pogacar
MvDP
Remco
Vingegaard
Wout

Of course the season doesn’t end today, though, so it won’t end this way. But a pretty tough call as it stands.

It's kind of premature to have this discussion right now because Pogacar and Vingegaard haven't even taken to the start of their main target yet. Ultimately, assuming no shock Tour winner, either Pogacar goes very close to putting this discussion to bed in the next four weeks, or Van der Poel and Vingegaard will be narrowly ahead of Roglic with Pogacar and Evenepoel also still in the discussion depending on how Worlds/Vuelta/Lombardia go.

And then, there's Van Aert... the only one bar Vingegaard not to win a monument or GT so far, and Vingegaard hasn't actually started one yet. On top of that, he's won exactly once in international races, which is a horrible return by big 6 standards given that we're past halfway through the season, so he's also behind everyone for second-order wins. He is the Tottenham Hotspur of this big 6, and he probably won't make the top half of this list even if he saves is season by winning the WCRR. The history of the Wout suggests he won't.
