As i remember in that oman itt, cancellara said it was the most painful tt he ever did and finished over a minute down on ebh who crushed the field with ease.
Add that to those early season sprint wins, it seems that they all just peaked for the completely wrong time.

before the tour he said that he felt very tired after his lately efforts and was just in poland to prepare for the world championship and wouldn't put in everything he has. He added that he'd take the opportunity if he was able to win a stage, but I don't think he's the favorite for today.

yep looks similar, though the finish on that madeline stage was closer to the bend, and cunego wanted to make a final push after the bemd, but comically realised it was over by then
