To be fair, Graeme Obree relied on (and may still recommend, haven't read his latest book) the same thing to improve his TTing. No school like the old school.

Yes, I believe Breschel's career has been hampered by a similar problem.

OT I love your nickname man.

Sky keeps reaching new levels on PR rubbish:D

BTW - Froome's attack wasn't even at the windiest part of the Ventoux to benefit from that "unique" discovery...;)

Wasn't there this whole thing about froome actually NOT having trained in a wind tunnel.

Haha, just what I was thinking. Imagine how good Horner could be if he just learned to climb while sitting down.

On lower gradients riding out of the saddle had a signifant higher heart rate and more energy consumption. On bigger gradients there was no difference. OTOH, riders said they "feel" better when standing on steeper gradients.

So if anything, the more alien performance belongs to Horner: Riding away from his competitors while standing on one leg, no matter if low gradients (more energy consuming than seated) or steep ones.

The article also mentions that older studies came to a higher efficiency for climbing while standing. It´s explained that those studies were done with not fully trained riders who thus lacked upper leg muscle strength.

Conclusion: If Horner would ride on two legs and seated while riding upwards, he would break all records, especially once he hits his peak age, which is rumoured to be around 51. He certainly would go below 30 minutes at Mandone...

Do we really need to discuss Chris Horner here?

You don´t blame me, do you?
If one wants to make a joke about Froome, that´s fair.
But to use the Über-Doper Grandpa CH, that was the worst example possible. It needed a fine rebuttal... :p

Yep.

It's a ****ing joke. Sky don't bother to send froome even to a windtunnel but still claim scientific body positioning aids him.

I'd quite like to read this book but unfortunately I can't bear to. Not because I'm suspicious of Froome particularly but because Walsh is a bloody awful writer. I'd like to read more about Froome and how he's done what he's done but I'm certain that Walsh isnt the man to lift the lid without making my eyes bleed!

He deserves credit for hunting Armstrong down for all those years but that doesn't mean he can write a good book.

Have to laugh at people who now say Walsh can't write a good book when they didn't open their mouths and say anything of the sort when he wrote Seven Deadly Sins and From Lance to Landis. I thought both were very good books.

A fair bit of revisionism is going on here.

People must remember, Walsh is just the ghost writer so the story isn't about him. None of this book is his own opinions. It's not a biography whereby he's doing his own portrayal of Froome.

If it's not the same people, your laughter looks a bit weird.

Did members of this forum criticise Walsh for the books he wrote before he started reporting on Sky?

I know the answer to that.

Like I said. Line up the lack of criticism with the current criticism consistently, based on what people have actually written here, and you have a point. Otherwise, you're just having a dig, as usual, at the forum as a homogeneous unit, which has been shown, countless times, to not be the case.

Beyond that, Walsh's writing style has nothing to do with doping per se.

Beyond that, there has been plenty of DAFUQ!? leveled towards Walsh with his romatic prose and dreamy eyed Team Sky writings here and there, including golden butterflies and the like.

Beyond that, Walsh ash gone from hard nosed journalist to Sky fanboi. I am sorry you can't see something that obvious.

That wasn't what I was discussing here.

Yes, they did. I did. He's a terrible writer.

I have always criticised his books even in the Lance era.

Thought he was a terrible writer and always said he had his mind made up on Armstrong and just found dots to join. Rather than form an opinion from the evidence he gathered.

He wasn't an investigative journalist with Armstrong and I always stated that in his forum.

He just had a hunch and played it out in books which sold 11 copies in France.
