Power of the ego! Some folk are happier when their pet is bigger , tougher or rarer than others. We all have our own idea of what makes a good pet. For myself a dog is perfect, a companion that responds well with interaction. Cats I find too aloof. I do have affection for snakes, lizards and spiders but feel they should exist in their native habitat . If however you have compulsion to care for a creature like this choose one that is non-poisonous.

Generally I currently see the same range of birds as I did in my youth , seasonal visitors come and go and some species appear more prevalent but mostly today is just as always .
However in recent years 2 unseen species have appeared . ringed parakeets are commonplace in local parks . These are seen right across the UK . Seeing these 'parrot' like birds I thought 'good luck surviving winter!' but how wrong I was originating in the Himalayas they are rather hardy.
Little egrets found on ponds have spread from europe heading further north during milder winters .
